Avengers: Endgame Makes $5.5 Million With Re-Release, As Toy Story 4 Stays No. 1 At US Box Office

The latest box office report is in, and Disney's Toy Story 4 was again the best-performing movie of the weekend in the United States and Canada. It made $57.9 million over the Friday-Sunday period, falling 52 percent from its opening-weekend haul of $118 million last weekend.

Toy Story 4 has now made $236.9 million in the US/Canada so far. Globally, Toy Story 4 has now made $496.5 million. All of the box office numbers come from Entertainment Weekly.

In other news, Annabelle Comes Home landed at No. 2 with $20.4 million. It's the worst-performing Conjuring universe movie to date; and that includes the earlier Annabelle movies that opened in the US and Canada to $37.1 million and $35 million respectively.

Another notable premiere was the re-release of Avengers: Endgame. It made $5.5 million, and combined with more money from overseas, its total box office stands at $2.76 billion. It's about $27 million behind Avatar ($2.78 billion) for the all-time record, and box office insiders believe Endgame may never beat Avatar, at least not right away.

Danny Boyle's Yesterday, which is a movie about a world where The Beatles do not exist, made $17 million for its opening weekend. John Wick 3 stayed in the charts, too, landing at No. 10 with $3.2 million.

Avengers: Endgame's Re-Release Not Enough To Dethrone Avatar

Avengers: Endgame returned to theatres this weekend with bonus footage, but it still hasn't passed Avatar as the biggest box office smash of all time--and it may never.

That's according to "box office insiders" who spoke to The Hollywood Reporter about the matter. The re-release pulled in $5.5 million in the US and Canada this weekend and a further $2.3 million from overseas markets. In total, Endgame has now made $2.76 billion worldwide. That's about $27 million short of Avatar's $2.78 billion record.

The box office insiders told THR that Endgame will not surpass Avatar in the immediate future, if ever. The suggestion there is that it's theoretically possible the movie will be re-released again down the road, though nothing is confirmed. After all, Avatar was re-released after it initially premiered, and that second run helped it make $33 million more.

Endgame returned to theatres not only in an attempt to catch up to Avatar's box office record, but also as a tie-in to Spider-Man: Far From Home. That film, which opens this week, deals directly with the events of Endgame.

Avatar recently became a Disney property when Disney acquired the majority of Fox's entertainment assets. In fact, Disney owns 6 of the top 10 highest grossing movies ever globally. The top 10 list is below.

  1. Avatar -- $2.78 billion
  2. Avengers: Endgame -- $2.76 billion

  5. Avengers: Infinity War -- $2.048 billion

Amazon's Lord Of The Rings Show To Film In New Zealand

Amazon's new Lord of the Rings TV show will film in New Zealand, just as Peter Jackson's Lord of the Rings and Hobbit trilogies did. This is according to The New Zealand Herald, which reports that a "huge" part of the show will be made in the country; Auckland and Queenstown were specifically called out as potential filming locations.

An Auckland films industry senior member told the publication that at least two different New Zealand film production companies, Kumeu Film Studios and Auckland Film Studios, are already doing pre-production work on the show. In fact, it's reported they've been working for more than a year already on the project in various endeavors such as building studio locations.

It was previously rumored that the Amazon Lord of the Rings TV show may film in Scotland. It's still possible the production will shoot in other locations outside of New Zealand. The NZ Herald reported that a "huge" part, but presumably not all, would be filmed in New Zealand.

An official announcement is presumably expected soon.

The new Lord of the Rings show is set in the Second Age, which is a 3,441-year period that covered major events like the forging of the Rings of Power, including the One Ring; the War of Sauron, the beginning of the Ringwraiths, and when Numenor the island sank into the ocean. Also, it was during the Second Age that the Elven city of Rivendell was developed and that the great battle where men, elves, and dwarves fought together for the first time against Sauron. A popular rumor was that the show would focus on a young Aragorn, but that may not happen.

JD Payne and Patrick McKay are writing Amazon's Lord of the Rings show. They have no TV writing credits to their name, but neither did David Benioff and D.B. Weiss when they made the massively popular Game of Thrones series. Amazon's Lord of the Rings show recently brought on Game of Thrones series producer Bryan Cogman, who was known as the "third head of the dragon" for Game of Thrones, along with Weiss and Benioff.

There is no word yet on when the Lord of the Rings show will premiere or who will star in it.

In other news, a new Lord of the Rings video game focused on Gollum is in development at Daedalic Entertainment, while a AAA online Lord of the Rings game is also on the way.

Netflix's Stranger Things Season 3 Review: Third Time's The Charm

How Apex Legends' Daily And Weekly Challenges Work

Respawn Entertainment has detailed the Apex Legends Season 2 Battle Pass challenge system. On the game's website lead product manager Lee Horn said the implementation "should allow for significantly greater Battle Pass progress with less grind over less time for players who return on a regular basis and maximize their challenge resets."

Challenges for Apex Legends will be split into two types: daily and weekly, and completing them will contribute towards leveling up your Battle Pass. To minimize the grind, Respawn has said over half of the challenges will grant a Battle Pass level. The rest of the challenges will grant the player Stars which, when combined with match experience points, will work towards fulfilling a repeatable weekly challenge that also grants a full Battle Pass level with each completion. Importantly, Horn notes that Stars are XP specific to the Battle Pass and don't impact account level progression.

Daily challenges come in the form of three tasks chosen randomly from a pool of 200. Examples include "deal 200 Damage in Bunker" and play one game as Lifeline." They are designed to be completable in short sessions and award 3,000 Stars each.

There will be seven weekly challenges and these are intended to be completed over several play sessions. They range from "get 20 Kills as Gibraltar, Bangalore, or Mirage" to "loot 100 Epic items." Four of these weekly challenges award 6,000 Stars each and three grant an entire Battle Pass level upon completion. If you get a Battle Pass part-way through the season, challenges from previous weeks will also be accessible to latecomers.

On top of those, there will be three additional challenges that reset every week. This special set is the same every week and will refresh whether they are completed or not, as they relate to overall challenge progress. Take a look at a list of them below:

  • Complete five Daily Challenges: Rewards one Battle Pass level
  • Complete 10 Daily Challenges: Rewards one Battle Pass level Earn 9,000 Stars and/or match XP: Rewards one Battle Pass level
    • This quest may be repeated an unlimited number of times each week.
    • Each completion increases the Stars and/or match XP required for the next by 9,000, up to a maximum of 54,000. You need 9,000 for the first level, 18,000 for the second level, etc. This challenge resets to 9,000 each week.

Apex Legends Season 2 is set to begin on July 2 and, along with the new challenge system, there will be a new character: Wattson, the daughter of the man who built the Kings Canyon arena.

King's Canyon will have several of its landmarks destroyed, as strange creatures instigate a change in the map. Titanfall 2's L-Star is also being added as a Legendary Gold energy-based weapon, randomly dropping in Supply Drops like the Kraber and Mastiff. There are plenty of other Apex Legends Season 2 changes on the way, so fans of the battle royale game have lots to look forward to.

TouchArcade Game of the Week: ‘Minit’

The idea behind the TouchArcade Game of the Week is that every Friday afternoon we post the one game that came out this week that we think is worth giving a special nod to. Now, before anyone goes over-thinking this, it doesn’t necessarily mean our Game of the Week pick is the highest scoring game in a review, the game with the best graphics, or really any other quantifiable “best" thing. Instead, it’s more just us picking out the single game out of the week’s releases that we think is the most noteworthy, surprising, interesting, or really any other hard to describe quality that makes it worth having if you were just going to pick up one.

These picks might be controversial, and that’s OK. If you disagree with what we’ve chosen, let’s try to use the comments of these articles to have conversations about what game is your game of the week and why.

Without further ado…

Minit

Published by Devolver Digital, Minit ($4.99) is the colaborative effort of developers Jan Willem Nijman, Kitty Calis, Jukio Kallio, and Dominik Johann, and made quite a splash when it originally launched on desktop and consoles just over a year ago. And not just because a bunch of indie powerhouses were involved in its creation, but because Minit was built around an incredibly unique concept, and it’s one that I think actually translates best to the mobile platform now that a port has arrived on iOS this week. Why is that? Well, mobile gaming lends itself to filling in those tiny gaps of free time you may have throughout the day, and Minit is by definition a game that you play one minute at a time.

That might sound pretty mundane as there’s no shortage of mobile games that are designed to be played in one minute chunks, but they’re typically arcade or high-scoring games, and Minit here is a full-blown action RPG in the vein of the original The Legend of Zelda (with a dash of Majora’s Mask thrown in for good measure). The game starts with you picking up a cursed sword which causes you to die every 60 seconds. As those seconds tick down in the corner of the screen, you rush to explore your environment and talk to the various characters in the world completing tasks and learning more about how to lift this awful curse. Once the time is up you instantly die right where you’re standing at that time, and resurrect at your most recent home base.

The reason this works is because you’ll get to keep any items you come across in your minute-long adventures, and the game is very cleverly structured like a Metroidvania or perhaps like an old-school point-and-click adventure game, and each new item you find will allow you to gain entry to a new area and make just a bit more progress than the last time. It’s also really surprising just how darn long a minute can feel sometimes. You can get a lot done in just sixty seconds! And sometimes you’ll get what you need to do done before the time has run out, in which case there’s an instant kill type of button that lets you end it all early and immediately start on your next life. I’ve died literally hundreds if not thousands of times in Minit, but I still get a tiny panic attack as the final seconds of each minute tick out, and I also get a twinge of guilt every time I instantly kill my little hero just because I’m too impatient to wait out a few extra seconds. There’s a lesson here, I think.

We actually reviewed Minit earlier this week, and aside from some sort of half-baked MFi controller support and some occasionally awkward moments using the virtual controls, we loved every bit of it. Even those issues feel like extreme nitpicking in the face of such a brilliant little experience. The entire game probably won’t take you more than a few hours to complete, even with the many instances of trial and error and many MANY unnecessary deaths as you figure things out, but it’s an experience that will stick with you for a long time. And as I said in the beginning, its bite-sized nature makes it a literal perfect fit for the mobile platform. At five bucks with no IAP, Minit is yet another great premium port of a beloved console and desktop hit.

Harry Potter: Wizards Unite Holding Special Event This Weekend

You can earn some extra spell energy and XP in Harry Potter: Wizards Unite this weekend, thanks to a special event. An alert in the mobile game tells players about an upcoming Task Force Emergency, prompting all the wizards and witches to heed the call and lend a hand.

"A Task Force Emergency approaches! On Saturday [June 29], grab your wand and help the SOS Task Force contain a flare-up of Foundables. For a limited time, Inns will provide extra Spell Energy and Care of Magical Creatures Traces will award additional Family XP."

The alert doesn't list a start or end time for the event, so it's unclear if it will be Saturday only or if it simply starts on Saturday. Whichever the case, try to get yourself some bonuses while you can.

Niantic recently addressed one of the top complaints from the community by making spell energy more plentiful, and this special event should bolster it even further for participating players. The developer also announced its first fan festival event to take place in Indianapolis later this summer. That promises to shed more light on the story of Wizards Unite, as well as provide some unique bonuses for those who can attend. It will be holding a lottery through the official site to open ticket sales.

If you're just getting started with your wizarding world career, you may want to familiarize yourself with how it compares to Niantic's other mobile hit, Pokemon Go. Or just read up on all of our Wizards Unite guides to be your best wizard or witch self.

Pokemon Go Raikou Raid Day Is Tomorrow: Start Times, Shiny Raikou, And What To Know

Groudon has returned once again in Pokemon Go, but that isn't the only Legendary Pokemon making an encore appearance this week. As a reward for completing enough Global Challenges during the recent Pokemon Go Fest event in Chicago, Niantic is also bringing Raikou, one of the three Legendary dogs from Pokemon Gold and Silver, back to Raids for a limited time tomorrow, June 29.

Raikou is a rare sight in Pokemon Go, making tomorrow's Raid Day a good opportunity to add one to your collection if you had previously missed it. To help you get ready, we've rounded up all the most important details about the Raikou Raid Day below, from its start times to your chances of finding a Shiny Raikou and more.

Start Times

Much like Niantic's monthly Community Day events, this weekend's Raikou Raid Day will only run for three hours, from 4-7 PM local time. During that window, Raikou will appear as a Raid Boss at Gyms, giving you a few hours to battle and capture the Legendary again.

Shiny Raikou

During the Raikou Raid Day, you'll have a chance of encountering a Shiny Raikou when you battle the Legendary at Raids. Shiny Pokemon are quite rare, so your chances of coming across one are down to luck, but it's worth going out during the event hours and participating in a few Raids.

How Do I Participate In Raids?

To take part in a Raid, you'll first need an item called a Raid Pass. You can obtain one of these from the first Photo Disc you spin at a Gym each day. While you can typically only receive one for free per day, Niantic is giving out up to five free Raid Passes during the Raikou Raid event as an added bonus, giving everyone a chance to participate.

Once you have some Raid Passes, head to a Gym where a Raikou Raid is taking place and team up with other players in-person to battle the Legendary. If you defeat it, you'll earn a handful of Premier Balls along with the opportunity to capture it. Raikou is a pure Electric-type, which makes it especially vulnerable to Ground Pokemon such as Groudon (which is also currently available as a Raid Boss), Rhyperior, and Golem.

There's plenty more to do in Pokemon Go besides the Raikou Raid event. To commemorate the game's third anniversary, Shiny Alolan forms are appearing in the wild, and trading Pokemon requires a quarter less Stardust than normal for a limited time. As previously mentioned, Groudon is back in Raids until July 10, and the next Pokemon Go Community Day takes place on July 21. The featured Pokemon this time will be Mudkip, the Water starter from Ruby and Sapphire.

Bill & Ted 3: Face The Music Casts More Characters From The Original Movies

Bill & Ted Face the Music is the hugely anticipated third movie in the time-travelling comedy series, and it will reunite Keanu Reeves and Alex Winter after nearly 30 years. The film is now in production, and the cast list keeps getting better. It has now been reported that some key members of the original movies have joined the new film.

According to Variety, Hal Landon Jr. and Amy Stoch will appear in Bill & Ted Face the Music, reprising their roles and Ted's dad Chief Logan and his stepmom Missy from Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure (1989) and Bill & Ted's Bogus Journey (1991). In addition, SNL star Beck Bennett has been cast as Ted's younger brother Deacon.

The roles of Bill and Ted's wives have also been cast--Princess Joanna and Princess Elizabeth will be played by Jayma Mays and Erinn Hayes. They join Barry star Anthony Carrigan as the movie's main villain, Samara Weaving and Brigette Lundy-Paine as Bill and Ted's daughters, and William Sadler, who will reprise his Bogus Journey role as Death.

After years of rumors that Winter and Reeves might return for a third movie, in March, the pair confirmed Bill & Ted Face the Music was finally happening. They recorded a short video thanking the fans for their dedication to the series and announcing that the movie would start shooting this summer. The film hits theaters on August 21 2020 and is directed by Galaxy Quest's Dean Parisot.

As for what the plot of the film will be, it was revealed by co-writer Solomon in January 2018 that the story finds Bill and Ted in the modern day, as family men that go back in time to revisit their younger selves, using footage from the original film.

Steam Apologizes For Confusion Around Summer Sale Wish List Promotion

Steam has apologized and clarified its Steam Grand Prix promotion as part of the Steam summer sale, after widespread confusion led to unintended consequences.

The promotion promised free games for random members of the winning team each day. The freebies would be the top game from the user's wish list, but some players believed that it may be an entirely random game from their wish list. This resulted in mass deletions of wish list games, especially lower-priced ones like indie games. This had a negative impact on indie developers, since being present on wish lists is important for visibility.

Steam issued a statement clarifying on Twitter, and then updated its Steam Blog with more detail.

"We've heard your feedback about the complexity of the Steam Grand Prix event," the company said. "We designed something pretty complicated with a whole bunch of numbers and rules and recognize we should've been more clear. We want to apologize for the confusion that this has caused, and also apologize for the broken mechanics that have led to an unbalanced event.

"To clarify one point: if your team makes it to the podium and you are randomly chosen to win something off your Steam Wishlist, then we'll grant you the top item. Just move your favorite item to the top of your wishlist and you should be good to go. There's no need to remove other items from your wishlist--keep them there so you'll be notified when those items release or go on sale."

The update also noted that it has made some changes on the back-end to mitigate some problems that have led to Team Corgi getting an insurmountable lead so far.

The Grand Prix minigame is running alongside the Steam Summer Sale itself, which is offering discounts on loads of PC games. Google Stadia's Data Cap Challenge Will Be Solved By ISPs, Says Phil Harrison

Phil Harrison, vice president and general manager of Google, has indicated that he doesn't believe data caps represent a major challenge to Stadia, the company's upcoming video game streaming service. In an interview, Harrison was asked by GameSpot how much of a limiting factor he sees data caps as. "Data caps [are] not a universal challenge," he replied, going on to say he believes that ISPs will react to demand in order to fulfill the needs of their customers.

"The ISPs have a strong history of staying ahead of consumer trend and if you look at the history of data caps in those small number of markets--and it’s actually a relatively small number of markets that have [data caps]--the trend over time, when music streaming and download became popular, especially in the early days when it was not necessarily legitimate, data caps moved up. Then with the evolution of TV and film streaming, data caps moved up, and we expect that will continue to be the case."

Placing faith in ISPs to respond to the demands of a streaming service like Stadia, which sends 1080p or 4K video feeds to players, depending on the package they're subscribed to, presents further questions. The first being, would the adoption of Stadia be widespread enough to signal a trend that ISPs need to respond to, in the same way that music, TV, and movie streaming did.

Harrison stuck to his guns when presented with this concern, saying he believes "ISPs are smart [and] they understand that they’re in the business of keeping customers happy and keeping customers with them for a long time."

On the suggestion that ISPs may instead see this as an opportunity to attach further costs to having more data, which in turn would become a greater expense on the user, Harrison noted that 5G technology would be one part of the solution.

"There’s a very interesting additional dynamic happening in the internet market, which is the evolution of 5G, particularly in what’s called fixed wireless, which is not necessarily running 5G on your phone but as a way of bringing 5G into your home. All of the 5G fixed wireless businesses that are up now that I’m aware of have no data caps and are very very high performance, so that’s introducing a competitive dynamic. $50 a month. That’s what Verizon fixed wireless costs is for minimum 300mb/s and up to a gigabit. It’s pretty good value to me."

Harrison also noted that many of the calculations that are being used to illustrate how quickly streaming at high resolution can burn through an allotment of data aren't necessarily correct.

"I’ve seen the math calculations that people have done. If you take 35mb/s, it’s not always 35mb/s because we use compression. There will be sometimes when actually it’s using significantly less data than that, so it’s not correct to multiply 35 mbp/s by the number of seconds that you play."

Harrison is are aware that Stadia is nevertheless a demanding service and, as a result, it will "give players information about what they’re using and how they can change their resolution if they want to."

Early adopters will get access to Google Stadia in November 2019 with the Founder's Edition, which is available for pre-order right now, directly from Google. Everyone else will have to wait until the Base version launches in 2020. When the Base version launches, it will be available as a free option, but people will be able to buy a Stadia controller and then purchase games a la carte to stream from anywhere without any additional fees. For access to streaming at 4K, a growing library of games, and discounts on purchasing them, players will need to pay a monthly fee for Stadia Pro.

Prior to E3, Google held an event revealing key information about Stadia, including details on the subscription service, launch plans, and the games that will be available on the service. You can read all about that in our Google Stadia news roundup.

‘Game of Thrones Beyond the Wall’ Announced for September Release on iOS and Android from Behaviour Interactive, GAEA, and HBO

With the final season of Game of Thrones finally done back in May, I expected a few licensed properties to release for the show. What I did not expect is multiple games and media projects based on Game of Thrones when I feel like all of this should have happened a while ago. The most surprising of the lot isn’t directly related to Game of Thrones and it is Elden Ring from George R R Martin and FromSoftware. Game of Thrones Beyond the Wall is a new collectible strategy RPG from Behaviour Interactive, HBO, and GAEA. Watch the trailer for it below:

Game of Thrones Beyond the Wall has an original story and it features characters from the show like Jon Snow and Daenerys Targaryen. It is set 48 years before the events showcased in the TV show and has you recruiting for the Watch to build your ultimate team. Game of Thrones Beyond the Wall has PvP combat as well and features grid based tactics. It will have in app purchases as you’d expect for most licensed games at this point. Check out the official website for it here.

If you’re interested in checking it out, you can pre-order it on the App Store here for iOS and pre-register for it on Google Play here for Android. It is free to play and is scheduled to release on September 23rd. What do you want from a Game of Thrones mobile game and are you satisfied with what has been announced for Game of Thrones Beyond the Wall so far?

Inaugural ‘Harry Potter: Wizards Unite’ Fan Festival Coming to Indianapolis Labor Day Weekend

Once upon a time, back in the days of yore circa summer 2017, the first ever Pokémon Go Fest took place in Chicago. It did not go well. Fortunately, Niantic has learned a lot more about what it takes to put on big events for its popular augmented reality game, as the second Fest was lauded as a huge improvement. That augurs well for the company’s newest AR kid on the block, as plans for the inaugural Harry Potter: Wizards Unite (Free) Fan Festival were revealed on Thursday.

Harry Potter: Wizards Unite

Set for Labor Day Weekend, the Fan Festival is coming together courtesy of Niantic, WB Games and the City of Indianapolis, and will take place in Indy’s White River State Park. Initial details about what exactly will take place at the event are a little scarce at the moment — not really a surprise considering the game has only been out for about a week in the US and UK, and even less than that elsewhere — but the initial press release teased that players will “engage in a variety of interactive experiences bridging the in-game experience with the real world."

We’ll assume that doesn’t mean actual goblins or Death Eaters, but one never knows.

“Real-world events are part of Niantic’s DNA, bringing players from all walks of life together in the name of adventure, exploration and creating lasting friendships," Bill Kilday, Niantic’s vice president of marketing and live events, said in a press release. “The incredible White River State Park is surrounded by the rich culture and history of Indianapolis and will be the perfect location for our inaugural Harry Potter: Wizards Unite event."

If that’s enough to make you want to attend, tickets aren’t on sale yet, but in conjunction with Visit Indy, hotel rooms at special rates can already be reserved. This is also the obligatory place for us to say you can keep tabs on upcoming Harry Potter: Wizards Unite Fan Festival announcements all the way up to Aug. 31-Sept. 1 by following the game on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram accounts. Also can’t entirely rule out more news being delivered by owl, because Harry Potter.

New Battlefield 5 "Finger Gun" Discovered, And It Has The Most Unsettling Reload Animation

Players have discovered a neat new Battlefield V Easter Egg, but it has a horrifying twist.

Players recently came across "finger gun" Easter Egg in the World War II shooter, and it's just what you'd expect. It's a "weapon" where the player's hands come together to mimic the look of a pistol. The Easter Egg is quite robust. Fire the weapon and your character will yell "ka-pow!" and "pew-pew!" as comic book-style graphics appear on screen.

But then it takes a turn for the worse. You might have even seen it coming. How does one reload a finger gun? The answer is in a truly disgusting manner. The reload animation shows the player's finger snapping with bone-crunching noises and all. Then, to pull back the "hammer," the animation shows your thumb becoming dislocated and broken in multiple places.

You can see it in action in the video below from YouTube user DannyonPC (via PCGamesN). Someone named zhpete reportedly was the first to discover the Easter Egg.

As for how you can find the finger gun for yourself, it's not exactly clear. You apparently need to find a box with a shovel on it. If the light is green, the shovel points to an area where you can dig up the weapon. DannyonPC says they jumped around to 20 different servers to find it. The map in the video appears to be Hamada.

In other news, Battlefield V was recently updated with yet another free map. The new map is called Al Sundan, and you can play it right now.

Pokemon Masters Livestream: Today's Start Time, How To Watch, And More

The Pokemon Company capped off its Pokemon 2019 Press Conference last month with the reveal of Pokemon Masters, a brand-new smartphone game developed in collaboration with DeNA (the studio behind Super Mario Run, Mario Kart Tour, and most of Nintendo's other mobile titles). Few details about the game were shared at the time, but we'll soon get another look at it thanks to a special livestream presentation happening this week.

The stream is scheduled to air today, June 27, and will run for roughly eight minutes, offering the first new details about Pokemon Masters since it was announced. If you're eager to learn more about the anticipated title, here's when and where you can tune into the stream, as well as what you can expect to see.

What Time Does The Pokemon Masters Livestream Start?

The Pokemon Masters stream airs this Thursday, June 27. In the US, the stream will begin at 6 AM PT / 9 AM ET. That equates to 2 PM BST for fans in the UK. Those in Australia, meanwhile, will need to stay up late in order to tune in, as the stream won't begin until 11 PM AEST.

  • 6 AM PT
  • 9 AM ET
  • 2 PM BST
  • 11 PM AEST

Where To Watch

The Pokemon Company will broadcast the Pokemon Masters stream on its official YouTube channel. You'll also be able to watch it right here on GameSpot using the video embed below, so you can bookmark this page and tune in when the time comes to watch the stream unfold.

What To Expect

We've only gotten a brief look at Pokemon Masters thus far, so Thursday's stream will presumably offer much more insight into the gameplay loop and what you'll be able to expect from the overall experience. We already know Pokemon Masters will feature a wide assortment of the series' most notable trainers, and that you'll be able to battle alongside them in three-on-three contests. However, it's unclear how the battle system will work or how you'll be able to build your own Pokemon team. Will battles play out similarly to mainline titles, or offer more simplified mechanics? And will you be able to catch new Pokemon? These questions will likely be cleared up.

We'll also likely get a look at more of the trainers you'll be able to encounter in the game. We've already seen a handful of them. In the brief footage the Pokemon Company showed off during last month's press conference, we saw former Pokemon Champion Blue, as well as Brock, Misty, Cynthia, and Steven Stone, while the key art that longtime Pokemon artist Ken Sugimori drew also features Red, Lance, and a few newer characters, including Diantha (the champion from Pokemon X and Y) and the female heroine of Pokemon Black 2 and White 2. That's likely only scratching the surface of the game's roster, and it's a safe bet we'll see more fan-favorite characters during tomorrow's stream.

‘Un Pas Fragile’ Chases a Frog’s Dream of Being a Ballet Dancer

Camille’s wish won’t come easily in this collection of short, beautifully-animated moments from her life. She’ll need you to help her face her fears.

Un Pas Fragile follows Camille’s life around the time when she is trying to become a ballet dancer. This is more than just training, though, as you’ll also be helping out with her struggles with bullies and mean people, her family life, and even the challenges she meets on the bus. There are many different difficulties she has to deal with, but if you can help her get her confidence up through her dancing, you might find that she slowly becomes more capable of dealing with the rest of the things that are going wrong.

Helping her is a calming, simple affair. She might need you to tap in the right places to help with her dance moves, or click on certain objects and places to guide where she should go. It’s all quite intuitive and well-guided, asking you to concentrate more on taking the journey with her than in fussing over the correct inputs.

The lovely artwork and music makes it all worthwhile. There’s an innocence behind the cute artwork that makes things quite charming, but doesn’t take away from the ugliness and hardship that Camille’s faces. It may be a cute visual style, but this makes her life seem much crueler at times when you have to face her problems alongside her. It also makes her triumphs that much more compelling, making your heart swell as she begins to take control of her life through dance. Un Pas Fragile conveys a wonderful message wrapped in a wonderful look, and tells a story that will sweep your heart up in moments.

Un Pas Fragile is available now on Itch.ioSteam, Google Play, and the App Store.

Huge ‘King’s Raid’ Update Brings Customization, Guild Wars, and More

Vespa Inc’s King’s Raid (Free) has been out now for about two and a half years, but this week it has received perhaps its most significant update yet. To back things up briefly, King’s Raid is a free to play hero-collection MMORPG for both iOS and Android where you can partake in story-driven single-player missions, cooperative RAID battles, and good old-fashioned PvP arena battles. King’s Raid has a really unique look compared to similar mobile titles with its detailed 3D character models and gigantic boss monsters, and it has amassed quite a large following over the past few years.

This week a brand new update has arrived adding in an often-requested feature: Guild Wars. As Vespa describes it, Guild Wars is “a PvP battle mode in which players defend their guild strongholds within the time of battle and gain points by attacking the opponent guild’s stronghold." Here’s a more complete explanation:

“Only guilds with more than 20 guild members can participate in the Guild War. 5 defensive party decks will be set for defense, and points will be gained by attacking the opponent’s pre-positioned defensive decks. Guild War Marks are sent by mail as compensation at the end of each Guild War, which is used to purchase a variety of goods, such as Unique Weapon Selector, Unique Treasure Selector, Infinity Stone, and more through the Guild Shop."

The next major component of this week’s King’s Raid update is a whole new customization system called the Dressing Room. Previously you had been able to unlock and equip various full costumes onto the characters in the game, but Dressing Room ups the ante with a full suite of customization options that let you outfit your characters with a ton of different clothing items and accessories. This is just the first introduction of the Dressing Room too, and Vespa plans on fleshing it out with even more options in future updates. I mean, how could you not just add a puppy nose to every character on your roster?

Rounding out this latest update is a new Field Battle option that lets you take part in raids and earn new gear without having to have multiple players in your party. Basically raids where you were previously required to have a party to participate in can now be played solo. There’s also a Dispatch Battle which lets you create a team of three, choose your rewards, and then send that team out to battle automatically, and they’ll continue to fight and you’ll earn rewards even if the game isn’t open. Finally, the difficulty in chapters 1-9 has been improved, the main quest system has been revamped, and 12 new costumes have been added to the game. It’s really a big update and whether you’re an existing fan or new to the series, King’s Raid is free to download and check out for yourself with all of this new content included right now.

‘Sky: Children of the Light’ from thatgamecompany Has Been Delayed by a Week for Marketing Reasons

After recently confirming a release date, Sky: Children of the Light has been delayed by a week on iOS. It was originally announced back in 2017 and a lot has changed since then both for thatgamecompany and mobile gaming. Sky has also been reconfirmed for Android and I say that because a few people have been wondering if it is Apple exclusive on the mobile front. Watch the trailer for Sky below:

Today, thatgamecompany announced a delay for Sky On iOS. The delay reason is to align their marketing globally. Having a worldwide release on the same day always works out better as long as the servers can handle things. thatgamecompany also confirmed that news for other Apple platforms, Android devices, consoles, and PC will be revealed soon. I still remember seeing people get angry when this was revealed as an exclusive (at the time). I wonder how they will roll out the game across various platforms and if it will hit Switch in addition to other consoles.

If you’re interested in playing Sky: Childern of the Light, you can pre-order it on the App Store right now for free. Sky: Children of the Light releases on July 18th on iOS and it requires iOS 9.0 or later. Check out the official website for it here. After all the hype and the delays, I’m curious to see how the final game plays out and how it is received across more platforms.

Marvel Is Very Closely Involved With New Avengers Game For PS4, Xbox One, And PC

The new Avengers game from Crystal Dynamics and its other co-developers is being made in very close collaboration with Marvel, it seems. Crystal Dynamics studio head Scott Amos spoke to GI.biz about the origins of the project and working with Marvel on it.

He explained that Marvel opened a dialogue with Crystal about what kind of Avengers game they wanted to make. The idea from the start, it seems, was for the Avengers game to be an "original take" on The Avengers, so it doesn't feature the likenesses of the MCU actors.

"Marvel showed up and said, 'What do you want to do?,'" Amos explained. "That's how it started. They really looked at us and said, 'Crystal, you guys are experts at making games, we're experts at The Avengers. What do you want to do? What's the original take you want to do on visuals, on story?'"

Amos explained that in the development process, Marvel is the "truth north" as it relates to the direction of the new Avengers game. Marvel's Bill Rosemann, who is the company's vice president of creative development, helps direct the team about things like what Tony Stark might say or what kinds of battle moves Hulk might perform.

Amos went on to discuss just how much Marvel is involved with the development of the new Avengers game, and it's a lot.

"They're not just collaborators, they're partners," Amos said. "They're embedded with us as a team. We talk to them daily. We send them everything we're working on, we have builds they play and get feedback. We bring them to the studio and go through it together."

"[Bill Rosemann] is 25 years at Marvel. He knows everybody. We're like, 'So we have a character, and this storyline we saw in issue x,' and he's like, 'I can get you the writer, let's go see what that person thinks'... We have this amazing collaboration with them that lets us do a little of the iconic fan service and a lot of doing an original take that makes it feel fresh and familiar."
