Final Fantasy 14 Players Are Getting Free Game Time To Make Up For Endwalker Issues

All Final Fantasy XIV players who own the game's latest Endwalker expansion and have an active subscription will receive seven days of free game time in the wake of ongoing server issues, Square Enix has announced.

The game's servers have been slammed following the early access release of Endwalker on December 3, resulting in long login queues and error messages that are causing players to disconnect entirely. Final Fantasy XIV producer and director Naoki Yoshida apologized for the situation in an official post while outlining steps the team is taking to improve things ahead of Endwalker's official launch on December 7.

Part of making things right is offering free game time to players, which will be offered to players starting on December 7. Yoshida states that more free game time could come "depending on further developments" in regard to ongoing server congestion.

Windows Xbox App Will Make It Easier To Tell If A Game Will Work Well On Your PC

Microsoft is rolling out a new feature in Windows' Xbox app, which should make it easier to determine if a game will run well on your PC.

This info will come in a label with the words, "Should play great on this PC," located underneath the blue install button on a game's storefront page. The feature is limited to a few games and is still under development. To see it for yourself, you can download the Xbox Insider Hub app and agree to receive Xbox app store's preview versions.

It's unknown what benchmarks Microsoft is using when defining a game playing "great" on a PC, or if there will be any tiers in-between "great" and the other end of "not working at all." It could be the case that a game will run well at a lower FPS on a PC with certain specs, and it's unclear if Microsoft will also incorporate such info into its "how this game runs" tag. From a quick perusal of the preview version, it looks like games currently either have the "play great" tag or do not have one at all. We'll need to wait until Microsoft says more in order to understand the details of how this new feature will work.

Call Of Duty: Warzone Pacific Launch Trailer Promises Chaos In The Sunshine

Call of Duty: Warzone is finally getting its long-awaited new Pacific-themed map, Caldera, this week, with a new launch trailer showing off the serene sights and sounds of the island before it's lit up with gunfire.

As part of the integration with Call of Duty: Vanguard, Caldera will take players back in time to the sunny shores and crystal-clear waters of the Pacific, right before everyone is airdropped in for some chaos. Caldera looks lovely and makes for a welcome change over Verdansk. Better still, you won't be limited to playing exclusively with Vanguard's weaponry either, with the launch trailer making a clear distinction between "Vanguard Royale" and "Battle Royale" modes that you can choose between. Call of Duty: Warzone is hosting its Last Hours of Verdansk today, kicking off at 10 AM PT / 1 PM ET. The event will last until 9 PM PT / 11:59 PM ET, after which Warzone servers will be offline until the new Caldera map launches. If you own Vanguard, you'll get 24 hours of early access starting on Wednesday, December 8. All other Warzone players will get access to the new map for free the following day.

New Horizon Forbidden West Details Dive Deep on Swimming Robots

Horizon Forbidden West is due out February 18, 2022, and there's still a lot we don't know about Aloy's next adventure. But in a new post on the PlayStation Blog, Guerilla’s community lead, Bo de Vries, outlined some of the big changes the team is making in for the upcoming sequel to 2017’s Horizon Zero Dawn.

The biggest changes seem to be related to the ways enemies will now react to Aloy’s presence. Past previews of Forbidden West have revealed a world inundated with water. That inclusion affects Aloy’s moveset -- our hero can now swim in all directions instead of being limited to the water's surface. But, life under the sea wouldn’t be very interesting without a little conflict.

“More machines are now capable of swimming and have the ability to dive and chase Aloy underwater,” said Arjen Bejj, the game’s lead AI programmer. “Amphibious enemies can also use jumps to get in and out of the water, so if you are unlucky they will combine this with an attack.

Diablo 3 Season 25 Will Let You Harness The Power Of The Lords Of Hell

Diablo III's 25th season, in celebration of the franchise's 25th anniversary, will let players embrace the powers of the Lords of Hell via a new type of socketable item: Soul Shards.

As detailed by Blizzard, season 25 introduces seven unique Soul Shards for players to find and upgrade. Three of the shards are inspired by the franchise's three Prime Evils, aka Diablo, Mephisto, and Baal. The remaining four are regarded as Lesser Evil Soul Shards, and players can only have one Prime Evil Shard and Lesser Evil shard equipped at a time. Prime Evil shards are socketed into helms, while Lesser Evil shards are socketed into weapons.

These various Soul Shards have a wide range of gameplay-augmenting abilities. The Sliver of Terror Soul Shard, for example, increases the length of ability cooldowns but grants damage reduction for each ability on cooldown. The shards can be upgraded for additional benefits using a new seasonal item called Hellforge Embers. While Soul Shards and Hellforge Embers can technically be found anywhere in the game (as long as you are playing a seasonal character), Soul Shards have a much higher drop chance from bosses.

How Journey Inspired The Musical Atmosphere Of A Memoir Blue

A Memoir Blue is an upcoming puzzle game with an atmosphere-driven story. It stars champion swimmer Miriam, who begins to think back on her childhood with her mother. A Memoir Blue doesn't use dialogue to tell its story; instead, it primarily uses music and its visuals to relay what's happening. Creative director Shelley Chen says she took inspiration from Thatgamecompany's Journey when designing the game.

"Journey is definitely my life changer game," Chen said. "My coworker introduced it to me and when I played it, I was mind blown. Back then, I was working on strategy and shooter games, and I wasn't really into it. I liked games in general but playing Journey--that was when my life completely changed."

Similar to Journey, A Memoir Blue is designed to immerse players in certain feelings and sensations, rather than an explicit storyline. When I spoke to Chen back in July about why A Memoir Blue incorporates both 3D and 2D animation, she spoke about how it not only helped liken the game more to a storybook, but it allowed for two different styles of character expressions. You can accomplish expressions with 2D characters that are harder to do in 3D, and vice versa.

The Game Awards Big Reveals Teased: "Pretty Major Stuff"

The Game Awards take place this Thursday, December 9, and organizer Geoff Keighley has offered up some teases for what to expect in terms of announcements and reveals.

Speaking to USA Today, Keighley said there will be "four of five things" on the level of Elden Ring's gameplay trailer at Keighley's Summer Game Fest event in June. "Oh, God, there are probably four or five things of that level. I can't wait to show people this stuff," Keighley said.

More broadly, Keighley said many of the announcements this year will be new IP instead of sequels.

Marvel's Spider-Man PS5 Getting New Suits For No Way Home

Peter Parker can don a couple of new suits in Marvel's Spider-Man, as part of an update to match the upcoming Spider-Man: No Way Home theatrical release. The free update is coming to on December 10, and will be available exclusively in the Spider-Man Remastered version for PS5.

The two suits can be seen in a trailer that integrates them into the cutscenes from the game. They appear to be the black-and-gold suit seen in various trailers, along with the new version of the red-and-gold suit. Some fans have speculated this second suit is a revision of the Iron Spider suit with some special enhancements from Dr. Strange, who plays a pivotal role in the upcoming movie.

The black suit bears a slight resemblance to another suit that Peter gets in the course of the Spider-Man story, which also had bright yellow highlights. That one was more sleek, though, as opposed to No Way Home's textured suit with gold highlights.

The Game Awards 2021 Hype Trailer Reminds You Of 2021's Best Games

Over the last couple of years, the Game Awards has become an annual highlight that honors the biggest games and hardest workers in the gaming industry. HBO's Last Of Us TV Show Adds Nick Offerman, Actor Says

HBO's The Last of Us TV show has added Nick Offerman as a cast member, according to actor Murray Bartlett, who is also lined up to play a role on the TV show.

Despite no official announcement of Offerman joining the cast, Bartlett said in an interview with The Guardian (via Resetera) that it was fun to work with Offerman.

"It's an epic show, but beautifully human and intimate. We filmed it in Calgary. A lot of my scenes are with Nick Offerman. Playing off him was awesome," Bartlett said.

Sounds Like No Dragon Age 4 News At The Game Awards This Week

To mark Dragon Age Day on December 4, BioWare confirmed that the new Dragon Age game remains in development. However, the company said not to expect any news until 2022. This suggests there won't be any news about the long-awaited RPG during The Game Awards this Thursday, December 9.

"We want to let you all know that we're still hard at work on building the next single-player focused experience for Dragon Age," BioWare said in a blog post. "We're excited for next year when we can talk more about what we're working on."

Dragon Age 4 and The Game Awards have gone hand-in-hand in recent years, with BioWare debuting new teaser for the game back in 2018 and following it up with a new cinematic in 2020.

Halo Infinite Campaign Review - What If Master Chief Was Daddy

The complex relationship between Halo protagonist Master Chief and his AI partner Cortana has always been one of the strongest driving forces for the franchise--it's a genuine bond, but one born out of manipulation, as Cortana (an AI based on the mind of the woman who kidnapped Chief as a child) is gifted to Chief as a perfect companion to ensure he maintains peak efficiency as a super-soldier. In this way, Cortana has always been the more dominant voice in the partnership. She tells Chief where to go and what to do, and Chief's single-mindedness coupled with the ability to solely rely on her means he never has to develop emotionally healthy bonds with normal human beings.

Halo Infinite is the first time we've seen that kind of relationship dynamic flipped. Paired with a new AI, simply named "the Weapon," Chief takes on a more fatherly figure in Infinite. Where Cortana was assertive, quick-witted, and mature, the Weapon is awkward, overly trusting, and silly. She sounds and acts like a child-like version of Cortana, pushing Chief into taking on a more domineering role that has far greater control over her. This opens some intriguing new opportunities for a Halo story--in a franchise that has long had an undercurrent theme of familial connection and motherhood, Infinite is the first in the series to focus its narrative around familial responsibility and fatherhood. The strength of that narrative, alongside the open world and new traversal mechanics, delivers a welcoming freshness to the two-decade-old series.

Other than Chief, Halo Infinite doesn't have much in the way of familiar faces. Very early into the campaign, you're confronted with the startling reveal that a lot of the folks you've come to know over Halo 4, Halo 5: Guardians, and Halo Wars 2 are dead or missing in action. Chief finds himself on a new Halo ring named Zeta Halo, which has been partially destroyed. The Banished, an independent army of multiple alien species that splintered off the Covenant, want the ring for some unknown purpose, and Chief vows to stop them. Without any of his usual allies to turn to, Chief ropes two unwitting companions into his fight--the aforementioned Weapon, who was supposed to delete herself following completion of her purpose, and the Pilot, a man desperately trying to just get home to United Nations Space Command (UNSC) space after being stranded all alone for months.

Fortnite Chapter 3, Season 1 is here, and that means so too is a new loot pool. More than just a remixed pile of guns and items up for grabs, the new Fortnite Chapter 3 means brand-new guns, healing items, and more are available for players on the new island of Artemis. Here's what to expect for new weapons and items when you drop in.

Fortnite Chapter 3 - New Weapons

There are several new weapons on Artemis, including at least one designed by The Seven themselves. Here they are by name, as well as what kind of features they have.

• Ranger Assault Rifle: Built for medium to long-range fire, this is the new default AR in Chapter 3
• MK-7 Assault Rifle: Designed by The Seven and sporting a unique first-person red dot scope when aiming down sights
• Striker Pump Shotgun: A reimagined "pumpy" with high burst damage
• Auto Shotgun: Needs closer quarters than the pumpy, but makes up for it with faster firing rate and improved reload time
• Sidearm Pistol: The new default pistol for Chapter 3, Season 1 with high headshot damage at close range
• Stinger SMG: A reliable short- to medium-range option when taking on players or their builds
• Hunter Bolt-Action Sniper: Fires three deadly shots per clip, and just one shot on-target can down players

The MK-7 is overpowered at launch and likely to be nerfed.

Players are already calling for an MK-7 nerf as it's both extremely accurate and deadly, especially with the new first-person scope making its Fortnite debut. Outside of that, early impressions from the Fortnite community is that shotguns are, if anything, a bit weaker than usual. That should result in a new meta during the course of the season--though we don't yet know what Epic has planned for patches.

If you wondering what a Victory Crown does or how to earn one yourself, here's all you need to know, so you can figure out why some players' names are in gold in your lobby.

Fortnite Victory Crowns

The rare and new cosmetic known as a Victory Crown has a slightly misleading name. You won't always need to earn a victory in order to get a Victory Crown, but you will need to come pretty close. Victory Crowns are given to players who finish at or near the top of a match. Win a crown for yourself and you'll start your next game with a Victory Crown worn on your head.

With prestige comes added danger, however. You'll be more noticeable to other players while wearing a Victory Crown. Perform typical feats, such as netting elims or getting assists, and earn extra XP while wearing the crown. If you manage to win a game with the crown on, you'll unlock an exclusive emote that features a tally of your exact number of victories that season.
