Abylight Studios Will Add iCloud Save Support to ‘Hyper Light Drifter’ In the Next Update With More Controller Support After iOS 13 Releases

I’m still surprised and glad that Abylight Studios brought the fantastic Hyper Light Drifter ($4.99) to iOS devices. If you haven’t played it yet, Hyper Light Drifter is stunning and one of the best premium games on iOS so far. I already enjoyed it on other platforms but it is great to have a full fledged release with all the Nintendo Switch extras on iOS.

When I reviewed it, I mentioned how I wished it had iCloud save support because games like this aren’t really something you can finish in a single sitting. Thankfully Abylight Studios has confirmed that iCloud save support will be arriving in the next update. One other interesting mention is that controller support will allow for more than just MFi controllers with iOS 13. This is a bit vague because people on the iOS 13 beta can already use PS4 and Xbox One controllers but I hope Abylight Studios will update the game with controller button prompts for those controllers when iOS 13 ships and the update is released.

If you’ve ever wanted something that feels like the best of The Legend of Zelda and Superbrothers: Sword and Sworcery blended in with a lot more, Hyper Light Drifter is for you. We featured it as our Game of the Week as well. It is also priced brilliantly compared to the other console and PC versions and still has the launch discount which brings it to just $4.99 right now. Have you played it on iOS or any other platform yet?

Ubisoft Acquires Developer Of "Hyper-Casual" Games

Assassin's Creed and Far Cry publisher Ubisoft has added another studio to its stable.

The company bought a 70 percent stake in the "hyper-casual" free-to-play game developer Green Panda Games. The studio and Ubisoft are both headquartered in Paris, France. Terms of the transaction were not disclosed, though Ubisoft did say the agreement gives Ubisoft the option to buy 100 percent of Green Panda's shares in the next four years.

Green Panda--which is staffed by 30 people--is the developer and publisher of mobile games like Sushi Bar, Terrarium, Emoji Craft, and Golf Inc Tycoon, among many others. In all, the company has released 55 games since its founding in 2013. Altogether, the studio's games have reached 85 million people around the globe, according to a press release from Ubisoft.

As for why Ubisoft is buying a controlling stake in Green Panda, the company said Green Panda gives Ubisoft a "sharp editorial vision in the idle games segment, data-based iterative creative processes, and undisputed expertise in both user acquisition and ad monetization strategies."

Ubisoft Mobile boss Jean-Michel Detoc said, "This acquisition strengthens our position in the hyper-casual market, particularly within the idle games segment."

Green Panda founder Guillaume Sztejnberg, meanwhile, said in his own statement that the studio is "delighted to be coming on board with Ubisoft..."

This is just the latest move from Ubisoft to invest further into mobile games. In 2016, the company acquired developer Ketchapp. Ubisoft already has a mobile game business, one of its biggest and best-known franchises being Hungry Shark.

Each and every day new mobile games are hitting the App Store, and so each week we put together a big old list of all the best new releases of the past seven days. Back in the day the App Store would showcase the same games for a week, and then refresh those features each Thursday. Because of that developers got into the habit of releasing their games throughout Wednesday or very early Thursday in order to hopefully get one of those coveted features spots. Nowadays the App Store refreshes constantly, so the need for everyone to release all on the same day has diminished. Still, we’ve kept our weekly Wednesday night format as for years that’s the time people knew to check TouchArcade for the list of new games. And so without further ado please check out the full list of this week’s new games below, and let us know in the comments section which games you’ll be picking up!

New Details Emerge About Ben Affleck's Abandoned Batman Movie Script

Oscar-winner Ben Affleck was at one point attached to write, direct, and star in an all-new Batman movie. However, the actor eventually dropped out, and Matt Reeves came in to direct and write a new script. But what was Affleck's Batman movie going to be about?

Robert Richardson, who was set to be the cinematographer on Affleck's movie, said on the Happy Sad Confused podcast that the Batman flick would have delved into "the insanity aspects."

"Well, he was going more into the insanity aspects. So I think you would’ve seen something a little darker than what we've seen in the past and more into the individual, who's inside Batman," Richardson said, via Batman-News. "What element may be sane and what element may actually not be sane. So he was entering into a little more of the Arkham, as you know, he's going into where you keep everyone who was bad, everyone that shifted and Batman."

Richardson said it was "very fascinating" to visit the darker side of Batman. Another interesting element is that Arkham Asylum is rarely seen in Batman movies, though Rocksteady's Batman: Arkham Asylum is set there. The new Joker movie starring Joaquin Phoenix will see the character visiting the "Arkham Hospital."

Robert Pattinson stars in the new Batman as the caped crusader in the film that's due in theatres in June 2021. The movie has been in the works for several years; Affleck stepped down as director in early 2017, and more recently confirmed that he was no longer involved at all, stating that he had "tried to direct a version of it, but couldn't crack it."

Street Fighter 5 DLC Characters Announcement Leaks Ahead Of EVO

Street Fighter 5 DLC Characters Announcement Leaks Ahead Of EVO

The 1,000-Player Battle Royale Game Has Been Canceled

The 1,000-player PC battle royale game, Mavericks: Proving Grounds, has been canceled. Developer Automaton Games is scuttling the project due to "insufficient funding," while the studio overall appears to be closing up shop.

The developer confirmed the news in a post on its website. "Please be advised that due to insufficient funding, the development of the Mavericks: Proving Grounds game has now ceased."

Automaton Games, which is based in the UK, has become insolvent, and insolvency practitioners Paul Appleton and Paul Cooper have been brought in to wind things down and close up the studio.

It's an out-of-nowhere update for Marvericks. Just last week, the developers announced that the game reached the Alpha stage of development--which is a major milestone for any game. Marvericks was playable at E3 2019 back in June.

Marvericks used the cloud-based SpatialOS tools that allowed the team to make massive worlds that could accommodate 1,000 players on a map. A public beta was planned for November.

One of Automaton's other games, the asymmetrical first-person multiplayer horror game Deceit, may still see the light of day despite the studio going into administration. The administrators said they are currently working on a licensing deal for the game, presumably with a different company. The free-to-play games remains available on Steam, where it has mostly positive reviews, and the joint administrators said "there will be no change in the live operation and provision of this game."

Martin Scorsese's Netflix Crime Epic The Irishman Gets Thrilling First Trailer

The first trailer for The Irishman is here. The highly-anticipated crime thriller is the latest movie from legendary director Martin Scorsese, and stars Robert De Niro, Al Pacino, and Joe Pesci. It's been produced by Netflix and is set to hit the service in the fall.

The Irishman tells the real-life story of Frank Sheeran, a union man who also allegedly worked as a contract killer. De Niro plays Sheeran, with Pacino as notorious union boss Jimmy Hoffa and Pesci as mobster Russell Bufalino. It looks like another epic, decade-spanning crime saga from Scorsese--and let's face it, no one does it better the director of Goodfellas and Casino. Check the trailer out below.

The Irishman also stars Ray Romano, Anna Paquin, Bobby Cannavale, Harvey Keitel, and Stephen Graham. It's penned by by Steven Zaillian, who also wrote Schindler's List, American Gangster, and David Fincher's The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo.

One of the most notable aspects of The Irishman is that it will make extensive use of CG to "de-age" De Niro, Pacino, and Pesci for scenes in which their characters are much younger. The trailer shows relatively little of this, but the amount of VFX work meant that the movie has involved nearly two years of post-production. According to Deadline, the final budget is around $200 million, making it the most expensive movie of Scorsese's career.

Although The Irishman does not yet have a confirmed release date, it will hit Netflix in the fall. It is also set to have a limited theatrical run and will premiere at the New York Film Festival on September 27.

‘Elsinore’ Seeks to Escape a Shakespearean Time Loop

In four days, everyone in Elsinore Castle will be dead. Unless Ophelia can make the right decisions and break a time loop through saving everyone.

Elsinore has you joining with Ophelia after a grim vision of the deaths of everyone in the castle. You have four days to correct the course of events and save everyone, or else the loop repeats. No one is just going to sit around during those four days and wait for you to get it right, though. Every person in the castle has their own motivations and stuff to do, and you’ll need to learn all of the secrets and habits if you’re to stop imminent disaster.

How can you alter these events? You can talk, lie, gossip, befriend, and forgive characters, in doing so changing how they conduct themselves. Depending on what you choose to do, these characters will act differently, setting off chain reactions throughout the story. Not all of these may be helpful, either, and you’ll just have to watch and see how your actions change the story as you seek the one correct path through it. You still retain everything you learned on old runs when you fail, though, so you can put that knowledge to new use on your next try.

Elsinore offers a world of complex characters all going about their lives as they see fit, demanding you get to know them all in order to save them. Diverting calamity will require a keen eye for detail, but with your help, Ophelia can surely pull it off. Or you’ll at least have fun seeing how your smallest decision can ruin everything.

Elsinore is available now on Itch.io and Steam.
