Here's How Much Money Frozen 2 Is Expected To Make In Its First Weekend

Disney's next big animated movie, Frozen II, is predictably expected to be a huge hit at the box office. But just how much money is the film expected to pull in?

Variety has early box office tracking estimates. They suggest the movie will make more than $100 million for its opening weekend, which would make it the biggest opening weekend haul for a Walt Disney Animation movie ever--Pixar movies are counted separately. Zootopia is the current leader at $75.1 million.

By comparison, the 2013 original Frozen made $67.4 million over its first weekend, and a total of $93.6 million for the five-day Thanskgiving period. Frozen wrapped up its run in theatres with a massive $1.3 billion globally. That continues to be the biggest total box office result for an animated movie all time.

Frozen II stands to be a massive success due in part to pent up demand. After all, it's been six years since the first movie came out and made "Let It Go" and "Do You Want to Build a Snowman?" some of the most popular and ubiquitous songs on Earth.

Kristen Bell and Idina Menzel return in Frozen II to voice the sisters Anna and Elsa. Kristoff (Jonathan Groff) and Olaf (Josh Gad) return as well, alongside new characters. The directors of the original movie, Jennifer Lee and Chris Buck, have also returned for the sequel, as have Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez, who wrote the music.

Frozen 2 hits theatres on November 22.

J.R.R. Tolkien's Home Is For Sale, And It's Beautiful -- See Inside The Estate

Would you like to live in the home of J.R.R. Tolkien? Now you can. The Oxford, England home of The Lord of the Rings author is now on the market.

Priced at £4,575,000 ($5.93 million USD), the residence is where Tolkien lived from 1930-1947. The 4,000 square-foot home, which was built in 1924, has six bedrooms, high ceilings throughout, and windows that provide ample natural night. There are also multiple reception rooms, a drawing room, and a walk-in pantry. Outside there is a large yard. It's really lovely.

Realtor Breckon & Breckon is selling the home--you can see more pictures and get additional details at the official listing here.

Tolkien published The Hobbit in 1937, after which he began work on The Lord of the Rings. Presumably he did at least some writing in this home, which no doubt increases the value of the estate.

No further Lord of the Rings movies have been announced, but Amazon is spending a lot of money to make a new Lord of the Rings TV show. Just recently, it was announced that the actor who played Benjen Stark on Game of Thrones has been cast in the Lord of the Rings show.

Humans To Compete Against Bears In An Absurd New TV Show

The Discovery Channel has announced a new TV show that pits humans against bears in what's being billed as a unprecedented competition program.

The network has given the green light to a show called Man vs. Bear, which is a competition show where "humans will be entering the bear's territory and take them on in a competition like never attempted."

Three grizzly bears--whose names are Bart, Honey Bump, and Tank--will compete against three humans in challenges involving speed, strength, and stamina. Each episode will feature five different competitions that are apparently based on what bears do in the wild. Some of the competitions include a tug-of-war between bear and man and another strength test involving pushing big logs. In the final round, the human competitors will square off against the biggest bear, Bart, who stands more than 8 feet tall and weighs 1,400 pounds.

All of the bears live in a sanctuary in Utah, which is where the competition will take place. One of the competitors is an MMA fighter named Ira, who spoke frankly about the challenge: "Competing against bears is both scary and exciting," Ira said, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Man vs. Bear will feature a commentary team comprised of CBS Sports Radio broadcaster Brandon Tierney and animal expert Casey Anderson.

"Grizzlies are extremely clever and lightning fast animals. Do these humans stand a chance? And will the humans be able to prove that they’re the ultimate predators…or simply prey?" reads a very ominous-sounding description by Discovery Channel.

Man vs. Bear premieres December 4 on Discovery Channel.

Believe it or not, this won't be the first human-versus-bear TV show. Fox aired a show called Man vs. Beast in the early 2000s, and one of the episodes featured competitive eater Takeru Kobayashi trying to eat more hot dogs than a 1000-pound Kodiak bear.

CBS is GameSpot's parent company.

Ubisoft Confirms First PS5/Scarlett Games, Including Watch Dogs Legion

Ubisoft has announced its first games for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Scarlett. In an earnings call this week, Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot confirmed that the five games it plans to launch in Fiscal Year 2021 will be released on both current-generation and next-generation consoles.

These include Watch Dogs: Legion, Rainbow Six Quarantine, and Gods & Monsters, as well as two further titles that have not been announced yet. Ubisoft's Fiscal Year 2021 runs April 1, 2020 through March 31, 2021. The PS5 and Xbox Scarlett are each scheduled for release in Holiday 2020.

"The five titles will be on this generation and next generation of consoles, and they will take full advantage of all the new features that are coming with the machines," Guillemot said, as reported by IGN. "Which are actually going to be extremely interesting for players, as you'll be able to download new content a lot faster. Players will experience better framerate, so there are lots of very good elements that will come with those new machines."

Watch Dogs: Legion, Rainbow Six Quarantine, and Gods & Monsters were all recently delayed, and are now scheduled to release during FY21.

With the PS5 and Scarlett coming in Holiday 2020 we may well see even more cross-generation games from Ubisoft and other publishers. During the last major console transition from PS3 to PS4 and Xbox 360 to Xbox One, cross-gen titles included Watch Dogs and Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag from Ubisoft, as well as high-profile shooters Battlefield 4 and Call of Duty: Ghosts.

For more on the PS5 and Scarlett, check out GameSpot's breakdown of the key specifics about each next-generation system.

Fallout 76 Refunds Available In Australia After Players Complain About Bugs And Other Issues

Australia's top consumer law regulator has announced that some people who bought Fallout 76 will be able to request a refund after ZeniMax acknowledged missteps related to the game.

The Australian Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (ACCC) said in a news release that ZeniMax, which owns Bethesda, "acknowledged they were likely to have misled consumers about their consumer guarantee rights in relation to the online action game Fallout 76."

ZeniMax's European and Australian divisions "accepted that their actions were likely to have contravened the Australian Consumer Law." Some people complained to the ACCC that ZeniMax staff denied them refunds after they experienced bugs and other network issues with the controversial always-online Fallout game. This runs against Australian Consumer Law.

"ZeniMax has acknowledged that they are likely to have misled certain Australian consumers about their rights to a refund when they experienced faults with their Fallout 76 game," ACCC Commissioner Sarah Court said in a statement.

ZeniMax will offer refunds to Fallout 76 purchasers in Australia who requested refunds between November 24, 2018 and June 1, 2019. Players will lose access to Fallout 76 once they accept the refund.

"When a consumer has purchased a product that has a fault which amounts to a major failure, the Australian Consumer Law provides them with the right to ask for their choice of either a repair, replacement, or refund," Court said.

In addition to paying out refunds, the ACCC said ZeniMax is updating its customer service documents to better reflect Australian consumer protections.

Fallout 76 was released in November 2018 on PS4, Xbox One, and PC, and the reviews were generally unkind to the role-playing game. Unlike previous entries in the series, Fallout 76 adopted an always-online, multiplayer-focused approach, which did not resonate with everyone.

Bethesda continues to update and support the game with new content and features, including a battle royale mode. Most recently, Bethesda spurred more controversy when it launched a $100-per-year subscription service for private servers.

Shmup ‘Ghost Blade HD’ Helps Gal Pals Blast Hostile Ships

Three ladies could use a copilot as they work to hose enemies down with bullets, all while gently weaving through complex attacks, in Ghost Blade HD.

Ghost Blade HD stars three different pilots (and their unique ships), having them going up against some sort of well-armed, yet oddly incompetent, threat. Using your unique weapons (and maybe picking a few new ones up along the way), you’ll need to carve your way five stages of metallic menaces and big bosses. Nothing a few ladies on a road trip together can’t handle.

The drag is, someone is always going to the the third wheel and get left out. The game features a local co-op mode, but that means one friend is always left behind. That’s a sad story in and of itself. Someone is going to be pretty upset in the group chat once you two get back from the edges of space.

Ghost Blade HD features three difficulty levels to suit your desire to be shot at, a couple of game modes for you to fiddle around with, and global leaderboards so you can show off how good you are at dodging bullets and plugging machines. Should be a good time, although you really ought to find a way to bring that third friend along for the ride. You’ve been friends forever, and letting an alien threat get in the way of your relationship with them is just an awful thing to do.

Ghost Blade HD is available now on the Nintendo Switch.

‘Zombie Blast Crew’ from Vivid Games Launches on iOS and Android for Halloween

Polish developer Vivid Games has unleashed their latest mobile game on the App Store and Google Play, and it’s a very timely release with Halloween happening today. You see, their new game is called Zombie Blast Crew (Free), and it’s all about, well, blasting zombies, an activity that seems all too appropriate for the occasion. Now, if you’re familiar with Vivid Games which, based on how many popular games they’ve released you probably are, then you might recall last year when they released a game called Space Pioneer on mobile. It’s a top-down shooter that has you eradicating all manner of aliens on a variety of planets, and it features one of the most satisfying loot/upgrade/progression systems I’ve come across in any game. It also received fantastic support post-launch with a full story-driven campaign being added, cooperative and competitive online multiplayer modes, and tons more. We loved Space Pioneer so much we picked it as our Game of the Week and awarded it 5 stars in our review.

Well, if you’ve played Space Pioneer, then Zombie Blast Crew is going to feel awfully familiar. And I don’t mean that in a bad way at all. The menus, the UI, the general flow of the game is all very much as it is in Space Pioneer, but much more zombie-fied. You’ll play through a single-player campaign where each level has multiple missions and a 3-star award system, and there’s a number of competitive online modes too. Perhaps my favorite part about Space Pioneer also carries over to Zombie Blast Crew, and that’s the extensive loot and upgrade system. You are constantly earning different gear, leveling up your profile, and upgrading your various items and characters. Combined with the bite-sized missions you’ll constantly find yourself wanting to play just one more mission or match to see what you’re able to upgrade next.

For how similar the two games are though, Zombie Blast Crew isn’t just a straight re-skin of Space Pioneer, even if it appears that way on the surface. First off the graphics are much improved in Zombie Blast Crew, featuring way better lighting effects, day/night and weather effects in levels, and far more interesting level designs. Space Pioneer’s levels often felt pretty barren and like generic round arenas with a few decorations spread around. Zombie Blast Crew’s levels feel more like the kind of scenes you’d see in an actual zombie apocalypse, with much larger areas to roam around in and buildings, abandoned vehicles, and debris strewn everywhere. The enemies are also way more varied and interesting in Zombie Blast Crew, and rather than having multiple weapons for your character to choose from there are 5 playable characters here that each feature a different main weapon.

It really feels like Vivid took everything that was great about Space Pioneer and improved it for Zombie Blast Crew. It’s like a refined version of the already winning formula. The missions, environments, and enemies all have a lot more variety solving my only real complain with Space Pioneer in that it could feel quite repetitive after a while. Zombie Blast Crew also utilizes the same sort of free to play system as Space Pioneer where there’s no restrictive energy system and the IAP options are more for fast-tracking the upgrading portions if you choose. Whether you’re an existing fan of Space Pioneer or not, Zombie Blast Crew is definitely worth checking out for free on the Google Play store for Android or on the iOS App Store, and be sure to join in on the discussion about it in our forums.

The Star Wars MMO, The Old Republic, Has Now Made Almost $1 Billion In Revenue

The Star Wars MMO, The Old Republic, launched in 2011 behind much anticipation. The game couldn't sustain its paying player population, however, and EA dropped the mandatory subscription in favor of a free-to-play model just 11 months after release. Developer BioWare continues to support the game years after release with its new hybrid business model spread between subscriptions and a microtransaction-supported free-to-play option, and it seems that's working out.

Publisher Elctronic Arts announced on an earnings call that The Old Republic is now closing in on $1 billion in lifetime revenue. "Believe it or not, we are close to $1 billion on Star Wars: The Old Republic revenue from the start of its history," EA CFO Blake Jorgensen said. "So it's a business that just keeps on going. We like those types of businesses."

$1 billion is a lot of money, but the game itself was a massive, expensive production. According to a 2012 report, EA spent $200 million to produce the game. The report claims 800 staffers on four continents worked for six years to bring game to market.

For further context, Blizzard's genre-defining MMO, World of Warcraft, reportedly brought in $1 billion per year during its heyday. Unlike many other MMOs, World of Warcraft continues to be a subscription-based MMO with no true free-to-play option.

The Old Republic's latest expansion, Onslaught, arrived on October 22. It is the game's seventh expansion, following Rise of the Hutt Cartel (2013), Galactic Starfighter (2014), Galactic Strongholds (2014), Shadow Revan (2014), Knights of the Fallen Empire (2015), and Knights of the Eternal Throne (2016).

The next Star Wars game is Jedi Fallen Order, which was developed by Apex Legends studio Respawn. As for BioWare, the studio is working on Dragon Age 4 and other unannounced projects.
