NHL 21 Technical Test Is Out Now, And Players Are Struggling With The Michigan Move

Halo MCC Cross-Play: Here's How It Will Work

Halo: The Master Chief Collection is adding cross-play support between Xbox One and PC in a future update, and now developer 343 Industries has shared some details on how it will work and what's being done to ensure a fair experience.

Technical designer Dana Jerpback said in a blog post that there will be input-based matchmaking for certain playlists. "We are looking at input-based matchmaking being implemented at the playlist level. This allows us to have more control on where we do and don’t separate players into sub-groups," Jerpback said.

"Basically, what that means in terms of implementation, in certain playlists, players will be locked to a given input, and we will have a couple of different knobs we can tune to alter this experience over time," the developer added.

Ace Combat 7 Is Adding New Aircraft And An Easier Difficulty

Ace Combat 7: Skies Unknown is going to expand its aerial arsenal with three new aircraft. This new DLC is scheduled for an autumn release, and contains the ASF-X Shinden II, XFA-27, and the CFA-44 Nosferatu planes. All of these have appeared in earlier entries in the franchise.

You can check them out in action in the trailer below. As well as these planes, the DLC will contain new weapons, skins, and emblems--the skins are revealed in the trailer alongside the new aircraft. It's unclear how much this DLC will cost, and a specific release date has not been announced yet.

At the same time, a free update will unlock a new, easier difficulty level for Ace Combat 7. The new difficulty is called "Casual Easy," and is designed as an entry point for players who struggle with the harsher elements of Ace Combat.

What this new mode will entail remains to be seen, but Ace Combat 7 features fairly harsh checkpointing in its campaign. As Edmond Tran noted in GameSpot's 8/10 review, "Checkpoints typically only occur only at the halfway point of a mission, and it's common to get 20 minutes into a battle before failing to hit an objective and having to start from the very beginning. This can get frustrating in the tail end of the campaign, where threats are more abundant and more relentless and the overall demands are higher."

If you are curious about Ace Combat 7 and have an Xbox One, it's available through Xbox Game Pass.

Black Panther's Michael B. Jordan Pays Tribute To Chadwick Boseman

Chadwick Boseman has tragically passed away at the age of 43, after being diagnosed with stage III colon cancer in 2016--a diagnosis that he kept private. The actor, who starred in 42, Da 5 Bloods, and Get On Up, was most famous for playing T'Challa, the Black Panther, in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Michael B. Jordan, who starred alongside Boseman in the film as the iconic villain Erik Killmonger, has posted a moving tribute to the actor on his Instagram, reflecting on Boseman's legacy and what he has meant to Jordan personally.

"I’ve been trying to find the words, but nothing comes close to how I feel," Jordan says at the opening of his lengthy post. "I’ve been reflecting on every moment, every conversation, every laugh, every disagreement, every hug…everything."

Lovecraft Country Episode 3: Easter Eggs And References In "Holy Ghost"

The third episode of Lovecraft Country dials the supernatural back and pushes Jurnee Smollett forward.

The second episode of Lovecraft Country pushed the visuals and plot in an extreme direction; it concluded with the death of a main character, the full-blown introduction of a cult pursuing immortality, and the collapse of a massive mansion, thanks to a death ritual gone wrong.

That's why it's such a relief that the third episode of Lovecraft Country, which debuted on Sunday, August 30, dials things back down. Uncle George is buried, and everyone who survived is trying to get back to normal, with varying degrees of success. The main plot of Episode 3 is that Leti buys a house in a white neighborhood to cater to black tenants. In addition to dealing with the racists who live across the street, she also has to deal with a malevolent basement spirit that has a dark history of its own.

There were Easter Eggs and "blink-and-you'll-miss-'em" historical allusions scattered throughout the episode. Here's what we noticed in Episode 3 of Lovecraft Country, "Holy Ghost."

1. Greek Mythology

Uncle George's grieving widow is named Hippolyta, after the Queen of the Amazons--a tribe of warrior women--in the Ancient Greek myth of Heracles/Hercules. It's a fitting name given her strong personality and spirit; future episodes may cause her to embody that character further.

2. Pioneering

Throughout American history, upwardly mobile black folks have been caught between the impoverished ghettos they were forced to live in and the white communities that would treat them with distrust, intimidation, and outright violence if they tried to move. The act of moving into white communities and hastening integration was a cultural trend known as "pioneering."

3. The Winthrop Block

The house that Leti buys is known as the Winthrop House. In real life, there is a single block of Winthrop Avenue in Chicago, IL that was an Uptown safe haven for working class black families in the '50s, '60s, and '70s.

4. Trumbull Park

There is a long, documented history of black tenants integrating white spaces and being met with hostility and fear. Specifically, Ruby references Trumbull Park, a Chicago housing project that became the site for racial violence when a black family moved in and was attacked with fireworks and rocks. Black residents could not walk the streets without police protection until 1963.

5. PTSD

Tic attributes Leti's visions and fears to possible PTSD. This is a deliberate parallel to the events in Episode 2, when Leti and Uncle George attributed Tic's paranoia to PTSD from his war service in Korea.

6. Emmett Till

One of the kids who's playing with the ouija board asks the board if he will enjoy his trip down South. The ouija board answers, "No." Some people on Twitter noticed the way the character was dressed and deduced that he was Emmett Till. 14-year-old Till was a real-life black teenager who lived in Chicago, but was in Mississippi visiting family when he allegedly whistled at a white woman. Two white men later kidnapped him, tortured and shot him, and threw his body in a river. They were both tried and acquitted for their crimes. Years later, the white woman, Carolyn Bryant, would admit to lying in court about the more lurid, exaggerated parts of her testimony, in which she claimed that Till grabbed her by the waist and made lewd remarks.

7. Cross Burning

The burning cross has its roots in Scottish history as a declaration of war. It was popularized in D.W. Griffith's controversial silent film The Birth of a Nation (1915), which depicted cross burning in two separate sequences. The post-Reconstruction revival of the Ku Klux Klan burned a cross at the top of Stone Mountain, Georgia that same year to commemorate its rebirth. It's become widely recognized as a weapon of terror against black citizens in the decades since.

8. Rough Ride

Leti is thrown around the back of a police van as an interrogation tactic. This is a reference to the "rough ride" tactic of police brutality, which gained notoriety during the '90s when several arrestees were severely injured or paralyzed. The practice reached cultural saturation with the death of Freddie Gray, whose fatal neck injury came as the result of an alleged rough ride. All indicted officers were either acquitted, mistrialed, or had the charges against them dropped.

9. Angel of Death

Dr. Hiram Epstein, who Leti speculates was involved in human experimentation, bears more than a passing resemblance to Dr. Josef Mengele, a doctor at the Nazi Auschwitz camp who experimented on Jewish prisoners, by doing thing like amputating limbs, deliberately infecting patients, and injecting people with chemicals to change their eye color. He escaped prosecution for his crimes and died in Brazil in 1979.

After Madden 21's Rocky Start, Dev Says This Is "Just The Start"

Madden NFL 21 didn't have the smoothest release. As with many of the previous years' releases, this year's Madden was criticized by many reviewers, including here at GameSpot, for its bugs and oddities.

EA has now reiterated that launch is just the beginning for the game. "Madden NFL is a live service and longtime players know that launch is just the start of the annual Madden journey," EA said in a blog post.

To that end, Title Update 2 came out with the game's official release on August 28, and it includes fixes for Face of the Franchise and Ultimate Team, among other areas of the game. EA is planning another, more substantial update to be released in September closer to the start of the NFL season. This patch sounds like it will provide fixes for some of Madden 21's more annoying and frustrating bugs.

Crusader Kings 3 Review Roundup

Crusader Kings 3, Paradox Interactive's newest addition to its medieval strategy RPG series, is out September 1. Ahead of the launch, we've rounded up a selection of reviews to help you decide if Crusader Kings 3 is worth it.

Critics generally praised Crusader Kings 3 highly. It has everything that players loved Crusader Kings 2 for: an imaginative and expansive strategy component, coupled with an in-depth and compelling RPG element.

David Wildgoose, in GameSpot's Crusader Kings 3 review, gave the game a high score of 8/10. Wildgoose stated, "[T]he singular vision of Crusader Kings 3 [is] a grand strategy game that successfully operates across a bewildering scale, feeling vast and unknowable one moment yet awkwardly intimate the next. It's a marvel of connectivity, effectively linking together complementary elements plucked from different genres--the role-playing game, the visual novel, the life simulation, the city-builder, the wargame--even if at times you can sense it straining at the seams."

New Halo Infinite Enemy Revealed Alongside A Closer Look At Master Chief's Suit

Halo Infinite developer 343 Industries has shared some new details about the game's story--specifically, the studio has revealed a new enemy character. Jega 'Rdomnai is a member of The Banished, which is the evil faction of aliens in Halo Infinite. Here is how 343 summed up Jega in a post on Halo Waypoint:

"In hushed whispers throughout the ranks of the Banished, Jega ‘Rdomnai’s name is spoken of with care. The blademaster’s history is shrouded in rumor and half-truths. Some say he was an experiment, an affront to his own kind. Others make mention of a clandestine ambush gone wrong. Very few know the truth, fewer still speak of it. One thing is certain: he has hunted demons before, and as the first recruit welcomed into the Hand of Atriox, he will do so again."

Jega is further described as a "mysterious and battle-ravaged Sangheli warrior." He is one of "several" new characters that players will meet in Halo Infinite, 343 said.

‘Rowdy City Wrestling’ is ‘Rowdy Wrestling’ with a Story-Driven Campaign, Coming September 17th

Developer Colin Lane LOVES wrestling. And golf. But mostly wrestling. And not just any wrestling but wacky physics-based wrestling in particular. Back in 2015 Lane and company’s Wrassling (Free) had us in stitches with its… nonconventional take on pro wrestling, and the game went on to be something of an underground hit. A few years later a spiritual successor called Rowdy Wrestling (Free) took a less abstract approach to a pro wrestling game by adding in more traditional elements like steel chairs (well, traditional for pro wrestling that is) as well as an expanded set of moves and abilities. Also wacky costumes. Rowdy Wrestling also proved to be a hit, but it was also a rather simplistic affair where you’re simply fighting one match after another. What if you wanted some Rowdy Wrestling but with… MORE. That, my friends, is what Rowdy City Wrestling is all about.

Here is Colin Lane’s own description: “Rowdy City Wrestling is an arcade wrestling game where you take a fighter on a journey to the world championships. The main game mode is the career mode where you fight in 1vs1 matches, royal rumble events and a 6 person free for all brawl mode. During your career you will meet various characters in the gym and surrounding locations. These characters will offer you things like jobs, assistance in a fight or even some backyard wrestling matches. There is a certain randomness to who you meet and what situations pop up so each play through should vary to a degree. There are around 30 fighters to unlock and an endless mode for when you want to just jump straight into the action." It sounds absolutely glorious for someone like me who has a blast busting out Rowdy Wrestling for a few minutes at a time but often wished that I was working towards something with all my matches. Rowdy City Wrestling will hit iOS and Android on September 17th and it’s available for pre-order on the iOS App Store right now.

Crusader Kings 3 Review

There was a naked man in my court.

On June 14, 1073 AD, my steward, vassal and knight, Earl Muiredach mac Carthach of Desmond arrived at the meeting of my small council dressed only in, well... his birthday suit. This was the man I'd entrusted to manage the paperwork of my realm, to ensure taxes were being collected. Was this newfound fashion choice a portent of his impending madness? Was it some bold power move designed to put me off my game? A sign of the contempt in which he held his ruler? Or was it a bug, a highly specific graphical glitch that just happened to leave one of my councillors undressed? I didn't know.

Perhaps it's a credit to Crusader Kings 3 that I didn't have an immediate answer, a sign of the depth and complexity of its simulation and its capacity for surprise. Perhaps it was also a failing, a breakdown somewhere between the calculations of a mass of colliding gameplay systems and how their results were communicated to me. Perhaps it's both. Regardless, this memorable event served only to highlight the singular vision of Crusader Kings 3, a grand strategy game that successfully operates across a bewildering scale, feeling vast and unknowable one moment yet awkwardly intimate the next. It's a marvel of connectivity, effectively linking together complementary elements plucked from different genres--the role-playing game, the visual novel, the life simulation, the city-builder, the wargame--even if at times you can sense it straining at the seams.

Ubisoft's Gods & Monsters New Name May Have Been Revealed

When a demo of Gods & Monsters leaked in June, Ubisoft pointed out that it was an older build and that the game wasn't even named that anymore. We may know the new name thanks to a ratings board leak from Taiwan.

As noted by Gematsu and supported by analyst Daniel Ahmad on Twitter, the new title seems to be Ubisoft's Immortals: Fenyx Rising. We already knew that Fenyx was the name of the protagonist, but the rest is new. In a statement following the Stadia leak, Ubisoft's Marc-Alexis Cote called it "the game formerly known as Gods and Monsters," so we've known a name-change was on the way.

That Stadia leak allowed players to try the E3 2019 demo codenamed Orpheus for a brief time, which some compared to a blend of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Assassin's Creed Odyssey. It was even said to borrow some UI elements directly from Odyssey, though Ubisoft says that the game has "evolved in surprising ways."

Watch Dogs Legion Will Allow You To Recruit Beekeepers Armed With Nano-Bee Swarms

Watch Dogs Legion will allow you to play as anyone you want, whether it be a blue-collar construction worker or an elderly assassin who may inconveniently succumb to old age during a mission. Every character that you can potentially recruit to your growing resistance has a particular set of skills that may come in handy depending on the mission -- like a beekeeper who can summon a swarm of bees to attack enemies with.

"This is a really fun character to play," Watch Dogs Legion's game director Kent Hudson explained in a new Future Games Show video. "She can do a bee swarm, which is actually near-future nano-bees. She also has an overcharger which is a really cool and unique weapon that synergizes with the bees and creates a big discharge blast."

To recruit the entomologist, players will have to destroy stolen data that has fallen into the hands of the private military company Albion, in a two-part mission. The gameplay shows off a stealthy approach as an Albion employee makes use of remote control cameras to download the entire layout of the area where the files are kept.

Magical Adventure RPG ‘Genshin Impact’ Reveals Cross Platform Progression and Play Support Details for iOS, Android, PS4, and PC

Genshin Impact from miHoYo has been in the works for a while now for multiple platforms. While Genshin Impact is inspired by Nintendo’s The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild as you can see from the footage below, it does a lot of unique things when it comes to combat and it also has multiple varied worlds that look pretty unique so far. The game includes both singleplayer and multiplayer including cross platform support. Over the weekend, miHoYo revealed the release date for the PS4 version of Genshin Impact and began pre-orders on the PS Store. The company also confirmed how PS4 players can play alongside mobile and PC players. Sadly, cross progression will not be available between PS4 and other platforms. Data transfer is only possible between iOS, Android, and PC as of now. Co-op play and multiplayer will work across all platforms though. Watch a new behind the scenes video for Genshin Impact below:

It is pretty disappointing that the PS4 version will not be able to transfer data but given how multiple games in the past haven’t had full cross play and progression on PS4 until later if at all, I’m not surprised. The PS4 version even has exclusive content. Pre-registrations and pre-orders for Genshin Impact are already live with various reward tiers for all players. Genshin Impact is free to play on all platforms. The App Store page lists the various in app purchases you can expect including multiple sets of Genesis Crystals, a Blessings Bundle, Gnostic Hymn, Gnostic Chorus, and more. It finally releases worldwide on September 28th for iOS, Android, PS4, and PC. If you’re interested in checking it out, you can pre-order Genshin Impact on the App Store for iOS here and pre-register for it on Google Play for Android here. You can also pre-register on the official website here. Have you tried any of the closed betas so far?

The New Mutants Opens To A $7 Million Weekend, The Best In Months

The August 28-30 weekend saw the biggest box office results of any weekend since the COVID-19 pandemic closed cinemas back in March, with The New Mutants leading a weekend that, while extremely quiet by pre-COVID standards, was big for 2020.

Variety is reporting that The New Mutants earned around $7 million for the weekend, following a $750,000 take from Thursday previews. This is well above the $4 million Unhinged earned the previous weekend. According to Box Office Mojo, cinemas around the US earned around $11 million over the weekend.

This is a funny ending to The New Mutants' long, strange road to a cinema release--the film wrapped in 2017, and was initially planned for a 2018 release. It finally settled into an April 2020 release date after numerous delays--but then had to be pushed back.

Call Of Duty: Black Ops Actor Speaks Up About His Role Being Recast

Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War will bring back many of the series' previous characters, including Alex Mason and Frank Woods--but the parts have been recast. Now, the actor behind Frank Woods in previous Black Ops games has opened up at his disappointment at the recasting.

In a lengthy video, Burns opens up about how it feels to see someone else playing his character. Although he's diplomatic about the new actor (who has not been publicly named), he's also clearly disappointed.

In an excerpt posted to Reddit (and picked up on by Eurogamer), Burns talks about how his previous performances, and his knowledge of the character's backstory, would have informed his performance.

Black Panther Director Ryan Coogler Says Chadwick Boseman Was "An Epic Firework Display"

The world is mourning the tragic, unexpected death of Chadwick Boseman, who passed away from colon cancer at the age of 43 on August 28. The actor, who kept his diagnosis and fight under wraps, was diagnosed with stage III colon cancer in 2016--meaning that he was fighting his own private battle during the filming of Black Panther, Avengers: Infinity War and Endgame, and his non-Marvel work during this period.

Ryan Coogler, who directed Boseman in Black Panther, has penned a moving tribute to the actor on Marvel's website, where he praises Boseman not just for his performance, but for his humanity, his creativity, and his kindness.

Coogler discusses how he "inherited" Boseman's casting from Captain America: Civil War, saying that this is "something that I will forever be grateful for." He recalls seeing Boseman's performance in an unfinished cut of the movie, and how it convinced him to come on and do Black Panther. "I’ll never forget, sitting in an editorial suite on the Disney Lot and watching his scenes," he writes. "His first with Scarlett Johansson as Black Widow, then, with the South African cinema titan, John Kani as T’Challa’s father, King T’Chaka. It was at that moment I knew I wanted to make this movie."

Vigor Is Coming To PS5/PS4 This Year, And Going Free-To-Play On Switch

Vigor is coming to PlayStation 4 and 5 later this year. The online shooter, which launched on Switch earlier this year, will also go free-to-play on Nintendo's platform--right now, you can only play with a $20 Founder's Pack purchase.

IGN has revealed, as part of their Gamescom 2020 coverage, that the game will come to the PS4 on November 25, and over the holiday period for PS5 (the system's release date has not been announced yet). For Switch players, you'll be able to play the game without a purchase from September 23.

Vigor is a multiplayer online loot-shooter set in a post-apocalyptic Norway, in which players have to team up to stay alive and overcome the challenges of the environment.

The Switch version released alongside Season 4 of the game; that will have likely ended by the time the PlayStation version of the game drops.

Rocky 4 Is Getting A Director's Cut, But Without Everyone's Favorite Scene

Twelve Minutes: James McAvoy And Daisy Ridley Explain The Game's Looping Script

Twelve Minutes, the upcoming adventure game from Annapurna Interactive set inside a time loop that players experience repeatedly, has some major Hollywood stars in it--James McAvoy, Daisy Ridley, and Willem Dafoe. Now, in a new behind-the-scenes video, McAvoy, Ridley, and creative director Luis Antonio have talked more about what to expect from the game.

Antonio says that originally the game was smaller in scope: "It was going to be a short game, and I was doing everything." However, he eventually realized that if he could "go a little further," things could get more interesting, and more options would be available to him. According to an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Antonio started working on the concept back in 2013.

The video, below, shows that while Ridley and McAvoy recorded together, they did so while separated by a barrier. Dafoe recorded his lines separately in Rome. According to McAvoy, the game is "about the danger of truly examining within," and Ridley says that the game is about how you deal with your own truth and the truth of those around you, saying it will mean "different things for different people."

The slick cyberpunk action game Ghostrunner is due to hit PS4, Xbox One, and PC later this year, and a new trailer has been released in time for the virtual Gamescom celebration. If you're looking to get your hands on the game prior to launch, beta registration has opened up, as well.

In the 30-second trailer released for Gamescom, we see Ghostrunner's lightning-fast action and combat on full display. Characters are killed with just one hit, making every battle a test of precision and reflexes. You're capable of dodging bullets, as well, and your impressive parkour moves keep everything moving at a rapid pace.

All of these moves need to be used fully in order to climb the game's Dharma Tower, which is "humanity's last shelter" following an apocalyptic event. In classic cyberpunk fashion, a powerful baddie holding all the cards awaits you. It looks like an extremely fast and fluid take on Dishonored, replacing the supernatural powers for high-tech weapons and style.

Eiyuden Chronicle Is One Of The Biggest Video Game Kickstarter Projects Ever

Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes is an upcoming RPG billed as a spiritual successor to the Suikoden series, and the pitch videos we've seen thus far are very impressive. They're so impressive, in fact, that the game managed to get more than $4.5 million in Kickstarter donations before its campaign ended on Saturday.

This impressive figure puts Eiyuden Chronicle as the third-biggest video game Kickstarter in history, trailing only Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night and Shenmue 3. Those games were both essentially successors to existing series, as well, with Shenmue 3 being an official sequel while Bloodstained acted as a spiritual successor to the dormant Castlevania series.

Because Eiyuden Chronicle destroyed its initial funding goal of only around $500,000, developer Rabbit & Bear studios added many stretch goals during the campaign, and all of them were reached. This included a battle defense mode, asynchronous mode, new characters, card battle mode, and a full orchestra for the music. It will also have Korean, Brazilian Portuguese, and Russian localization because of the funding.

Epic Games Will Let You Make And Sell Your Own Free Fortnite Merch

Epic Games' lawsuit with Apple is ongoing, with Apple recently terminating Epic's developer account on the App Store as they fight over profit cuts and Epic's decision to use an alternative payment system in Fortnite. While the case moves through the legal system, Epic is trying to get public opinion on its side with the "Free Fortnite" campaign, and it's now even letting you make your own gear--and even sell it--to show where you stand.

Via an asset pack available on the Unreal Engine site, you can design and sell shirts, stickers, and other merchandise with Epic Games' Free Fortnite logo. The logo is a parody of one of Apple's older designs, and in Epic Games' post on the subject, it appeared to put one of the stickers on a Macbook.

Epic filed a restraining order against Apple to temporarily allow it to continue using Apple's development tools for the Unreal Engine, and this was granted by a judge while its lawsuit is ongoing. However, its request to temporarily reinstate Fortnite on the App Store was not granted, and the game is still unavailable to download on iOS devices as Apple owns the only authorized digital store. It's also unavailable to download through Google Play on Android phones, but there are other storefronts on Android that offer the game.

TouchArcade Game of the Week: ‘Meteorfall: Krumit’s Tale’

Ah sequels. They are such a good idea in theory, but so often they’re hit or miss. Do you play it safe and stick closely to what people enjoyed about the original game but risk being too similar of an experience? Or do you go in a totally different direction in an effort to explore the series from a different angle, but risk alienating those who loved the first game by being TOO different? For me, the answer is somewhere in the middle. A good sequel should build on the foundation of the game that came before it while expanding it in new ways and exploring different ideas that will ultimately offer a brand new experience while still feeling familiar to fans of the original. A tall order to be sure, bu that is the exact chord that developer Slothwerks has struck with Meteorfall: Krumit’s Tale ($6.99), the follow-up to their hit 2018 card-based dungeon crawler Meteorfall: Journey ($0.99).

What made the original Meteorfall so brilliant was its simplicity. You played against a deck of enemy cards and special event cards, and utilized your own deck, which you could add and subtract cards from, to perform your actions. All of this was built around a binary Tinder-like left/right swiping system. If a monster came up, you either fought it or you didn’t. If a weapon card came up, you either played it and attacked your enemy or discarded it and refilled some stamina. Whatever the case was, your options were always broken down into yes or no questions. This made Meteorfall: Journey an incredibly breezy experience that still had a good amount of depth and strategy, but its streamlined nature also meant you were resting heavily in the hands of the RNG gods. To enjoy Meteorfall meant enjoying that sometimes, through no fault of your own or your strategy, you’re just going to get the shaft.

This is probably the biggest departure with Meteorfall: Krumit’s Tale. Right off the bat you’re not playing against a deck that is randomly drawn one after the other, but you’re playing against cards from your own deck as well as enemy cards that are dealt onto a 3×3 grid. Well, I guess technically they’re tiles and not cards, but essentially they perform the same function. This very simple change opens up SO MANY possibilities and instantly makes Krumit’s Tale a great deal deeper than Journey. You now have a choice as to what tiles from the grid you want to deal into your playable hand, which ones you want to discard to earn back some resources, and then which enemies you want to engage in battle. There is a shop and treasure chests and other ways to come across new tiles, and you can again add and subtract them from your deck, and it’s important that you do so in order to come up with a focused strategy for your deck. But ultimately the multiple choices in Krumit’s Tale are what set it apart from the largely single choices you’re given in Journey.

The funny thing is that while Krumit’s Tale offers a deeper and more strategic game, it doesn’t replace Meteorfall: Journey for me. Going back and forth between the two has really reinforced that they can happily coexist with each other, and I’ll pick whichever one I’m in the mood for at that moment. A more straightforward and streamlined game with Journey? Or a deeper experience that requires me to think and strategize a bit more with Krumit’s Tale? The choice is mine and what a glorious choice it is to have to choose between two such outstanding games. If you were already a fan of Journey I’d find it hard to believe that you wouldn’t also enjoy Krumit’s Tale. It’s easy to see that the same DNA was used here but it mutated off into a whole new direction. If you’re new to the series there’s nothing wrong with jumping in with this new game, but you also could snatch up the first one while you’re at it since it’s currently only a buck and just go to town with all the Meteorfall goodness.

Call Of The Sea Is A "Twist On The Traditional H.P. Lovecraft Works," Says Dev

A new trailer for Call of the Sea premiered during Future Games Show, discussing the themes of Out of the Blue Games' debut title. According to Out of the Blue Games co-founder Tatiana Delgado, Call of the Sea takes inspiration from H.P. Lovecraft's stories, albeit with a twist.

"But as you can see, although our game is heavily influenced by his tales, Call of the Sea is a twist on the traditional H.P. Lovecraft works," Delgado said. "We're trying to focus on the surreal and the oneiric more than the horrific and the grim. In short, Call of the Sea isn't a descent into madness but a rise to sanity. Losing your mind makes you see a dream-like, colorful world."

Losing your mind makes you see a dream-like, colorful world."
