Aliens: Fireteam Elite Coming To Game Pass December 14

If Back 4 Blood isn't scratching your co-op shooter itch, Xbox Game Pass is getting another co-op shooter in the form of Aliens: Fireteam Elite, and it's coming soon. The game will arrive on Microsoft's subscription service on December 14, and will be available on both consoles and PC.

Originally released on August 23, the third-person survival shooter sees players step into the boots of hardened marines from the Alien sci-fi universe, as they struggle to contain a Xenomorph infestation using a variety of weapons and gadgets. The game was generally well-received, with our own review calling it "a surprisingly deep third-person shooter with tight, enjoyable multiplayer action that has enough variety to tease multiple return visits."

Aliens: Fireteam Elite features 20 enemy types, including 11 different types of Xenomorphs across four campaigns. Players can customize their marine's class, weapons, and look, and each class features various perks for further customization.

When Is The Warden Coming To Minecraft?

Minecraft Update 1.18, otherwise known as Caves and Cliffs Part 2, is now available across all Minecraft Bedrock Edition platforms, but it's missing one key feature: Wardens. The big update has been eagerly anticipated by players after Mojang previously announced that Cliffs and Caves would be split into two parts. After Part 1 was released to players earlier this year, the team is ready to close out the year with the second and final part of Cliffs and Caves, but players are still waiting for the new kind of Mob: the Minecraft Warden, which was pushed out of this update way back when it was planned for the summer and is now scheduled for much later. Here's when you can expect to face down this towering fiend.

Minecraft Warden release date

Previously announced during Minecraft Live earlier this Fall, the once-planned Warden Mob is not a part of Cliffs and Caves. Instead, the Warden will arrive in 2022’s The Wild update, which is currently without a concrete release date. Once the update arrives, the Warden will appear in a new setting called The Deep Dark, setting the mood for one of Minecraft’s scariest Mobs yet.

What is the Minecraft Warden?

With the Warden, one wrong step could be your tomb.
With the Warden, one wrong step could be your tomb.

Players are eager to take on this new Mob due to its unique features and fighting style. The Warden brings a bit of horror influence to Minecraft, as it can insta-kill any player not wearing Netherite armor--and needs only two hits to kill players who do have that elite armor equipped. Combined with its daunting size and power, this gives the Warden a personality akin to Michael Myers: an unstoppable force not to be trifled with. Even Mojang said players should think of the new Mob as a “natural disaster” rather than a boss fight. You’re meant to evade and escape a Warden, not fight it head-on.

How To Use Clarity Boost For Xbox Cloud Gaming

If you’re an Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscriber, you already have access to Xbox Cloud Gaming, which lets you pick up and play 100+ games in the Game Pass library across PC, consoles, and mobile devices without needing to download them. The service has been improving over time and its latest new feature, Clarity Boost, is opt-in for players. If you want to get the most out of your cloud streaming experience, here’s how to use Clarity Boost for Xbox Cloud Gaming when playing on a browser.

The steps are brief but specific, so without following Microsoft’s directions, you won’t get to experience the improvements of Clarity Boost. The feature comes in partnership with Microsoft Edge, which makes Clarity Boost a real team effort within the offices of Redmond, Washington--or more likely, the home offices of those employees, given the world events of the last two years. If you can access the Microsoft Edge browser, you can play Xbox Game Pass games via the cloud with Clarity Boost by following these instructions:

  • Download Microsoft Edge Canary
  • To confirm you are in Microsoft Edge Canary, navigate to edge://settings/help to make sure you are on version 96.0.1033.0 or later
  • To enable Clarity Boost, go to www.xbox.com/play, login and start a game, such as Sea of Thieves or Forza Horizon 5
  • Open the more actions menu, shown as “(…)” on screen
  • Select Enable Clarity Boost option
Let JD Fenix be your introduction to Clarity Boost.
Let JD Fenix be your introduction to Clarity Boost.

As you can see, Clarity Boost is meant to enhance the image of a streamed game, which tends to lose a bit of luster as compared to games installed natively on a console or PC. Note that Microsoft Edge Canary is the version of the browser that gets early and experimental features, but may sometimes be buggy as a result. The name implies users on this platform are the proverbial canary in the coal mine, who may wind up seeing bugs that the team intends on fixing before updates are brought to the general public.

Warframe's Largest Story-Based Cinematic Expansion, The New War, Arrives December 15 On All Platforms

Warframe developer Digital Extremes will launch the award-winning action game’s largest and most ambitious cinematic expansion, The New War, for all platforms on Wednesday, December 15. The announcement was revealed in Warframe’s final Devstream of the year dedicated to The New War where Digital Extremes premiered the action-packed CG Discover Your Power Within story trailer, hosted giveaways and Twitch Drops, and confirmed critical details about how to play The New War when it arrives on December 15.

Rife with non-stop action, smooth combat, and featuring one of the most welcoming communities in online gaming, Warframe is inviting new and returning players to discover its free Cinematic Quest line, combining a personal story of self-discovery with an action-packed space opera that takes players across 16 planets with 3 Open Worlds as they restore balance to the fractured Origin System. A new cinematic CG trailer created by Blur Studios (Netflix’s Love Death + Robots) reveals the face behind a Warframe while delivering more of Warframe’s signature gut-punching action and shining light on defining moments between the players and the Lotus.

“Just as players have waited so long for this climactic moment in Warframe, we too have eagerly awaited the time where players would be able to experience the emotional depth and action of The New War that we’ve created for them,” said Rebecca Ford, Director of Community and Live Operations. “We can’t wait to experience The New War alongside our players and deliver a continuation in Warframe’s story that we’ll be able to build and expand upon. Halo Infinite's Challenge System Undermines What Makes The Game Fun

I was really enjoying Halo Infinite until I was faced with completing an ultimate challenge.

Halo Infinite's free cosmetic rewards can be earned in two ways. The first is progression along its battle pass, the usual free-or-paid tracks dishing out rewards as you "level up" by gaining experience points from doing in-game stuff--specifically, completing special challenges with requirements like "finish four ranked matches" or "destroy an enemy Wasp three times." The second is by clearing all available challenges in a week to earn the weekly Ultimate reward, a cosmetic item you seemingly can't get any other way.

That second one seems like a fun idea, at least at first. Once you complete all the other weekly challenges, you're faced with one final capstone challenge to unlock your weekly Ultimate. This is a tougher challenge, with a bigger reward of experience points, to really test you.

Ivanna Sakhno Joins Star Wars: Ahsoka Disney+ Series

A new cast member is joining the small but growing troupe of actors bringing Star Wars: Ahsoka to life. Ivanna Sakhno will reportedly play a new character in the series, Deadline reports.

Sakhno's American filmography is pretty short; the actress is probably best known for a small role in 2018's Pacific Rim: Uprising and a role on the Hulu series High Fidelity. Sakhno joins star Rosario Dawson and Natashia Liu Bordizzo. Dawson stars as Ahsoka Tano, the Togruta Jedi who once was a padawan to Anakin Skywalker. Bordizzo steps into the role of Mandalorian Sabine Wren. Hayden Christensen is also scheduled to make a guest appearance as Anakin Skywalker. Lucasfilm has not yet revealed the identity of Sakhno's character.

Ahsoka Tano first appeared in the Star Wars: Clone Wars and Star Wars: Rebels animated series, with Ashley Eckstein providing her voice. Tano made the jump to live-action in The Mandalorian Season 2, Episode 5, The Jedi. Lucasfilm announced a spinoff series centered on the character not even a month later at Disney's Investor Day in December 2020. Other upcoming Star Wars series include the Book of Boba Fett, which premieres on December 29, 2021; a series that follows Obi-Wan Kenobi 10 years after Revenge of the Sith, and which will also feature Hayden Christensen; Andor, which stars Diego Luna as his Rogue One character Cassian Andor. A Rangers of the New Republic series is also in the works, but its production schedule is in question after Disney severed ties with Gina Carano, who was to reprise her role as Cara Dune for the show.

What's In The Sea Of Thieves Season 5 Plunder Pass

Sea of Thieves Season 5 and the new Plunder Pass are upon us. Hopefully you've gathered your sea legs and are ready to set sail, because this season is packed full of fan service, from Cannon Rowboats to re-burying treasure to even the simple act of sitting. Here's what to expect in the Sea of Thieves Season 5 Plunder Pass.

Sea of Thieves Plunder Pass free rewards

The unorthodox season pass includes the new Bell Brigade clothing set, which comes colored in red and green for holiday festivities. Completing the look are equipment skins such as the Mistletoe fishing rod and Snowbound Ship lantern, the latter of which gives your lantern the look of a beautiful snow globe.

Chucky Renewed For Season 2 At USA Network, Syfy

Chucky has been renewed for Season 2 at USA Network and Syfy, according to Variety.

This is a nice vote of confidence from both networks for the show, which premiered simultaneously on both USA Network and Syfy on October 12 this fall. Billed as a "coming of rage" story, the series features the iconic killer doll in a spin-off from the long-running Child's Play horror series--but one that tackles themes of sexuality, bullying, domestic life, and murder.

"We're thrilled to start pulling the strings on a second season of puppet mayhem with Chucky," said series creator, showrunner, and executive producer Don Mancini. "Many thanks to our partners at USA, Syfy, and UCP for their incredible support and guidance bringing Chucky to the small screen, bigger than ever." Mancini also added that Chucky sends his "still-undying thanks" along with a message that: "This isn’t over, not by a long shot. You better watch your backs in 2022!"

Sea of Thieves is setting sail for Season 5 this week, and Rare's pirate sandbox is getting a bundle of new toys. The game's "tools, not rules" North Star remains strong as Sea of Thieves approaches the end of its fourth year in the open waters of Game Pass and the Xbox ecosystem, as well as Steam. When does Sea of Thieves Season 5 start?

Season 5 may be Sea of Thieves' most fan-focused update yet.
Season 5 may be Sea of Thieves' most fan-focused update yet.

Sea of Thieves Season 5 kicks off on December 2, with the update being available to download that morning. As this is a live update, there's no preloading of Season 5, though you could ensure your system is set to automatically update the game when the patch becomes available on that Thursday morning. As always, the update will be free for all players, and the game's more-generous-than-most free path of its Season 5 Plunder Pass will offer 100 rewards split across currencies and cosmetics. The paid path, which you can access for $10, will allow you to unlock an additional 14 cosmetic rewards, including the new and exclusive Creeping Cold skin.

There's no end date mentioned for Sea of Thieves Season 5, but if it follows the trajectory of past seasons, you can expect to chase Season 5's exclusive rewards for roughly the next three to four months or so, which would lead us right up to the game's fourth anniversary in March of 2022.

Sea of Thieves Season 5: Start Date And Details

Sea of Thieves is setting sail for Season 5 this week, and Rare's pirate sandbox is getting a bundle of new toys. The game's "tools, not rules" North Star remains strong as Sea of Thieves approaches the end of its fourth year in the open waters of Game Pass and the Xbox ecosystem, as well as Steam. In Sea of Thieves Season 5, major quality-of-life updates and some much-requested features are making their way to the game, alongside a new Plunder Pass, a new type of mission, and a focus on deepening the pirate role-playing experience. Here's everything to know about Sea of Thieves Season 5.

Don't Expect Half-Life 3 Anytime Soon (If Ever), New Report Suggests

Half-Life 3 is rumored to not be on the way anytime soon, YouTuber Tyler McVicker revealed in a video covering what projects are reputed to be in development at Valve. According to the Valve sources McVicker talked to, "There is not a major development team working on anything outside of the few pieces of software specifically tailored for hardware."

The reason reportedly is because Valve's Steam Deck--launching early 2022--has become the current focus for the company. "Right now, Valve is trying to get the Steam Deck out... Valve is throwing a lot at it," McVicker said. "Half-Life 3, any kind of traditional mouse and keyboard first-person shooter at Valve, is not taking place. If it is, it's a very small group of people."

McVicker also commented on Citadel, another in-progress project at Valve. "[Citadel] is a Half-Life-based, FPS/RTS hybrid, that is cooperatively based. Think about Left 4 Dead, Alien Swarm, and an RTS, and Half-life all having a baby," stated McVicker. "It's being created with the Steam Deck in mind due to how the game is supposed to be controlled. Originally there was supposed to be a VR asymmetrical cooperative component, however due to Valve's lackluster view on VR in the current day, it's very possible that it's set aside."

Disney Plus Drops Simpsons Episode Set In Hong Kong

Disney+ users in Hong Kong have discovered that an episode of The Simpsons has noticeably disappeared off the platform. According to Deadline, it is not clear whether the episode was removed by the streaming service or if it was ordered to by the authorities.

The 2005 episode that has been pulled comes from Season 16, titled "Goo Goo Gai Pan," features the animated family visiting Tiananmen Square in Beijing. As presented in the original episode, the landmark has a plaque that reads: "On this site, in 1989, nothing happened." The episode also features jokes about Mao Zedong, a Chinese community revolutionary who was the founding father of the People's Republic of China.

Concerns about censorship have grown rapidly in Hong Kong since last year, when Beijing imposed a sweeping national security law to quash monthslong anti-government protests. However, as of this writing, Disney has not provided a comment confirming whether this episode's disappearance is an example of acquiescing to censorship.

Call Of Duty: Warzone Last Hours Of Verdansk Event Starts Tuesday

Call of Duty: Vanguard will get Warzone integration with the new Caldera map on December 8, but players will get one final event to say goodbye to the Verdansk map. In addition to the ongoing Operation: Flashback limited-time mode and the Secrets of the Pacific event, the Last Hours of Verdansk begins on November 30. The launch of this event will likely follow Call of Duty's normal update schedule with a 10 AM PT / 1 PM ET start time.

There are few details about this Warzone grand finale, so it's uncertain if this will be a limited-time mode or just a cinematic cutscene to close out players' time in Verdansk. In a Call of Duty blog, the Last Hours of Verdansk is vaguely described as allowing players to "see what happens to Verdansk before Warzone goes dark to prepare for Caldera." Activision also says to "expect a spectacular and fitting end to your time in Verdansk as we say farewell to the Kastovian city... forever?"

Activision also teased the event by saying, "bombs away," which could mean Verdansk is getting nuked again. Hopefully the event is not too similar to Black Ops Cold War's integration into Warzone with the two-part Destruction of Verdansk event, which saw the modern version of Verdansk get nuked to stop the spread of a zombie outbreak. And most recently, Verdansk experienced World War II bomber strikes during the initial Vanguard reveal event. Regardless, we'll be updating this information as more details surface about the Last Hours of Verdansk and any participation rewards that might be included.

Mario Kart Live Is Just $50 With This Cyber Monday Deal

Mario Kart Live is something the world's top scientists never thought possible: a real-world Mario Kart game you can play in your living room, with toddlers and pets acting as surprise obstacles. The Nintendo Switch game is typically $100, but GameStop and Walmart are both currently having Cyber Monday sales that cut the price in half. You'll have a fun new racing game and your cat will have a fun new thing to chase.

The deal applies to both GameStop and Walmart listings for the Mario version of the Mario Kart Live: Home Circuit game. The Luigi one is still full-price, so everyone's favorite chronically anxious brother may get ignored this Cyber Monday. For $50, you get a working kart as well as racing gates to make your own course in your home. The actual software you'll need to play the game is free, and you can then set up whatever obstacles you want to make a custom track, assuming your furry friends aren't disruptive enough. A recent update also added new features, including split-screen multiplayer.

Though Black Friday is over, Cyber Monday has just begun. Check out our Cyber Monday hub to see how you can save on everything from Xbox Game Pass to Nintendo Switch games.

Xbox Series S Was The Best-Selling Console On Black Friday, Report Says

The Xbox Series S was the best-selling game console on Black Friday, according to the Adobe Digital Economy Index (via Business Insider). This is no big surprise, as the Series S has been easier to find than the Xbox Series X, as well as the PS5 and Nintendo Switch. All consoles have been affected by the ongoing global semiconductor shortage and other supply chain issues.

Not only that, but price is a highly motivating sales factor, and the Series S is $300. Combined with the appeal of Xbox Game Pass, it's not hard to see why it dominated Black Friday. Historically, Microsoft has seen lower-priced systems perform better, even if the hardware is less powerful. "I think, over the generation, our expectation would be that price really matters and that you would see the Series S sell more," Spencer told Kotaku.

Microsoft has not yet released any public commentary around how its consoles and games sold over Black Friday. Keep checking back with GameSpot for the latest.

PlayStation Vita Exclusives Freedom Wars, Soul Sacrifice's Servers Shut Down Next Month

Both Freedom Wars and Soul Sacrifice: Delta servers will shut down on December 24. They were both PlayStation Vita exclusive titles developed by Japan Studio for the handheld system.

PlayStation Japan broke the news for both games on their respective pages on November 19. Freedom Wars and Soul Sacrifice: Delta were released on PlayStation Vita back in 2014, and the final message in the termination announcement was, "We would like to thank all of our players for enjoying the network play of this game."

Right now, only PlayStation Japan has announced the server closures, so it's unclear whether they will also extend to other regions as well. However, it wouldn't be surprising if an official confirmation came soon.
