Final Fantasy VII Remake PC Requirements Released Ahead Of Launch

Final Fantasy VII Remake is making its way to PC, with the Intergrade version including both the base game and the additional Intermission DLC. It's a visual stunner that might not need as much graphical horsepower behind it according to the official specifications.

Square Enix doesn't make it clear what performance to expect from both its minimum and recommended PC requirements for the game, but at the very least you can rest assured you won't need something cutting-edge to get things running. And Nvidia GTX 780 is over eight years old at this point, while both the Intel Core i5-3330 and AMD FX-8350 are even older.

What you will need is a lot of hard drive space, with Final Fantasy VII Remake commanding a full 100GB on PC regardless of the settings you use. You can expect an SSD to speed up loading times and visual pop-in, too, so only resort to an older HDD if you don't have another choice.

PlayStation 5 Console Covers Officially Announced, Coming January 2022

Sony has officially announced a new series of PS5 console covers priced at $55, which will come in Nova Pink, Starlight Blue, and Galactic Purple color schemes. Sony says that these "galaxy-inspired" colors will launch globally starting in January 2022 at participating retailers, and can easily be applied to existing PS5 consoles and its disc-free Digital Edition. Simply pop the current white cover off, click the new one of your choice into place, and you'll be good to go.

In addition to that, new color variants of the DualSense controller are also on the way, joining the previously released Midnight Black and Cosmic Red versions. Similar to the PS5 covers, these controllers will also be available in Nova Pink, Starlight Blue, and Galactic Purple.

Back in November, a patent filed by Sony implied that replacement faceplates were on the way, as the company registered documents for an "ornamental design for a cover for an electronic device," with diagrams of the PS5 faceplates being used for illustrative purposes.

Scorn Sets An October 2022 Release Date For Its Biological Horror Adventure

Ebb Software's Scorn, an upcoming first-person horror game with some highly suggestive imagery, now has a release date of October 2022 for its PC and Xbox Series X|S launch. The announcement came from the studio's Kickstarter page and was confirmed in a new trailer which you can see below.

In another update on its Kickstarter, Ebb Software's CEO Ljubomir Peklar said, "December has been a pretty huge month for us at Ebb Software. Not only have we been able to share our new release date, but we've also reached a significant milestone in our development, 75% content completion! I'd just like to give my deepest thanks to our community for your patience and our team here at Ebb who have been working incredibly hard to pull everything together."

The studio plans to spend the rest of 2022 completing the final 25% of the game's content, polishing the gameplay, and ironing out any lingering bugs. In case you missed it when it was originally revealed, Scorn looks and plays like a fusion of BioShock and HR Giger art, although the studio has mentioned in previous interviews that different art forms from painting, sculpture, architecture, and music have played an influential role in the game's design.

Sniper Elite 5 Takes The War To France, Launching In 2022

Developer Rebellion Entertainment has revealed Sniper Elite 5, the next chapter in its World War 2 marksmanship series. Once again starring sniper Karl Fairburne--who's now sporting a trendy tactical turtleneck--Sniper Elite 5 moves the action from the Italian front to behind enemy lines in France circa 1944. Fairburne has been tasked with investigating and destroying Operation Kraken, a secret Nazi project that threatens to end the war before the Allies can even invade Europe.

In typical Sniper Elite style, this means that you can expect a lot of Nazi heads and various other vital organs to be gruesomely shredded, with the game regularly slowing down to provide a kill-cam view inside of every unlucky soldier that walks into Fairburne's line of sight.

According to Rebellion, some of the new features of Sniper Elite 5 include real-world locations from France in 1944, a new traversal system that includes ziplines and shimmying along edges, and new multiplayer options. You'll be able to play the game in co-op with a friend, which allows a team to share ammo and items, give orders, and heal each other. On a more adversarial note, you can invade another player’s campaign as an Axis sniper for a game of cat and mouse.

I Have Misgivings About Forspoken And Its Protagonist

My first impression of Forspoken upon watching its reveal trailer was genuine glee. Seeing a Japanese-developed role-playing game with a dark-skinned person of color as the main protagonist is rare. Seeing such a game starring a Black woman is exceptionally rare. Learning later that a vast majority of the principal cast are women is practically unheard of.

So I went into this latest hands-off press preview of Forspoken with hopeful expectations. And, at first, it seemed like developer Luminous Productions and publisher Square Enix knew their stuff. Going into this game, Forspoken creative producer Raio Mitsuno wanted this to be an experience that primarily featured a female cast and starred a protagonist that broke free of conventional fantasy hero tropes--everything else about the game was built around that concept "from the beginning of the project."

"That was really one of the core concepts that we had from the very beginning of the game--we wanted to create a world with a bunch of strong female characters, and we wanted a world of magic," Mitsuno told me. "And we wanted to use those as our pillars when we started the project. We were impressed with the increasing number of female leads in the industry, but we wanted to really take it a step further and go with a female-centric world. We also wanted--with our main character Frey--to portray a character who was really down-to-earth and a realistic portrayal of a modern-day young woman, who just so happens to then get thrown into this world with a bunch of powerful women, a sort of matriarchal society."

Sonic 2's Director Explains Why Casting Tails Was A No-Brainer

With the release of the first trailer for Sonic the Hedgehog 2, fans have finally been properly introduced to the big-screen version of Mile "Tails" Prower. Sonic's two-failed fox friend has officially arrived and the two will be getting into all sorts of trouble when the movie hits theaters on April 8.

One of the biggest surprises in recent weeks has been the news that Colleen O'Shaughnessey, who voices Tails in the video games, would be reprising her role in the film. Given that Sonic is voiced by Ben Schwartz and Knuckles, who will also debut in the new film, is voiced by Idris Elba, it seemed like someone knew could certainly be on the way.

That's not the case, though. Speaking to GameSpot, director Jeff Fowler explained his very good reasoning for bringing O'Shaughnessey back for the character. "Hearing her voice come out of our movie version of Tails, I mean, it just felt like such an incredible fit," he said. "I felt like the fans felt the same way, there was such overwhelming enthusiasm and support for that reveal."

Alan Wake 2 is officially on the way. Remedy's sequel once felt impossible, but the Finnish developer has been building toward this moment for the past several years, which included acquiring the intellectual property rights from Microsoft, revealing its Remedy Connected Universe, and remastering the original 2010 cult classic Alan Wake. Throughout the year, the focus on the movie industry is on summer blockbusters. Between your Fast & Furiouses and your MCUs, most of the summer dialogue revolves around things blowing up and people doing things that would kill them in real life. And those movies can be great, but what about the not-so-great movies?

When we say "not-so-great," what we really mean is "total stinkers." Not every movie can be the best--or even any good. Some have to be the worst--that's just how things work. And throughout the year, there have been some movies that have been critically panned by critics.

Going through Metacritic, we found the 20 lowest-scoring movies of 2021, some of which you may have heard of--while others are straight-to-video flicks that passed us all by.

Metacritic aggregates critical reviews from credible journalists around the globe and gives an average score for the films, based on the reviews. For the list below, movies with fewer than seven reviews weren't considered for the worst films of the year. Metacritic is the sister-site of GameSpot, as both websites are owned by Red Ventures.

Surely, that will make this movie a lot more fun.

This is also a Netflix film, which stars Octavia Spencer and Melissa McCarthy as two superheroes taking on evil-doers like The Crab, Laser, and The King. It features a dynamite cast, but is filled with unfunny gags and a paint by numbers story.

This film takes place in the Japanese community in Sao Paulo, Brazil. An orphan finds out she's the heiress to the Yakuza crime family. She has to wage war against those who wish her dead. However, according to many critics, this movie was already dead on arrival.

A sequel to 2017's forgettable The Hitman's Bodyguard, this film follows Ryan Reynolds' bodyguard character Michael Bryce, as he has to deal with the hitman's (Samuel L. Jackson) wife, Sonia Kincaid, played by Salma Hayek. A few critics noted that the best part of this movie is that it's shorter than the original.

13. A Week Away

This musical takes place at a Christian summer camp. A teen who has a run-in with Johnny Law finds himself falling for the daughter of the guy who runs the place. If you love High School Musical, but only have Netflix, this still probably isn't the movie for you.

Awkwafina and Allison Janney star in this movie about a man who goes missing, and his wife becomes a local celebrity as she goes on the search for him. A former Marine now works as a janitor and his son is killed by a police officer, and there is no trial, so the father has to take matters into his own hands. While the film tackles very serious issues in America, critics found it to be overly preachy and at times, manipulative.

Finally, a movie that teams up Bruce Willis and Megan Fox. The duo plays FBI agents who are investigating a string of possibly related murders of woman. Spartacus: 5 Things We Still Don't Know About Sony's Rumored Game Pass Rival

With Xbox Game Pass seemingly proving to be a big success for Microsoft, it seemed like only a matter of time before Sony would need to respond. Sure enough, Bloomberg recently reported that Sony is currently working on a new service, codenamed Spartacus, that the PlayStation maker intends as a rival to Xbox Game Pass.

According to Jason Schreier's report, Spartacus will merge existing Sony subscriptions PlayStation Now–which offers a library of hundreds of games via streaming, and some for download–and PlayStation Plus–which offers multiple free games a month, discounts on items in the PlayStation Store, and access to online play–into one service, offering access to recent and classic releases from Sony's catalog.

Per the report, this tiered system would offer the benefits currently included with PS Plus to subscribers at the lowest tier, a selection of PS4 and PS5 games to subscribers at the next tier, and "extended demos, game streaming and a library of classic PS1, PS2, PS3, and PSP games" at the highest of the three. Spartacus is planned for a Spring 2022 launch.

CoD: Warzone Gets Major Weapon Changes; Nerfs Shake Up The Meta

Call of Duty: Warzone's new Pacific-themed Caldera map is live for everyone, and a December 9 update provided the first major balancing pass for Season 1. Huge nerfs will likely shake up the meta, but the patch notes don't provide any details on the changes made to Vanguard weapons.

Raven Software says that numerous changes have been made to Vanguard weapons and attachments, but we don't know the specific changes made. The patch notes vaguely say that names, descriptions, pros, cons, and stat bars have been updated in-game to reflect these Vanguard weapon changes.

While the Vanguard tuning remains a mystery, the patch notes do confirm details for changes made to Modern Warfare and Black Ops Cold War weapons, including several nerfs for guns that were previously some of Warzone's most powerful choices.

Sony Now Owns Patent For Death Stranding's Path-Building Feature

Sony just patented a collaborative path-building feature that appears to be the one from Death Stranding. The patent (via NME), titled "Terrain radar and gradual building of a route in a virtual environment of a video game," credits Hideo Kojima as the inventor and describes many familiar features from the game such as the ability to see and traverse other players' paths.

In the summary, it delves into further detail on the mentioned "method for influencing a gaming world of a video game." Patented methods include identifying which paths have been used, improving paths based on the number of players that have used them, and so on. Death Stranding enabled porters to identify routes that other players had plotted and interact with them. Despite the relevance to Kojima's latest masterpiece, the document doesn't name drop the game anywhere in the text.

The patent could mean that Sony and Kojima could have more in mind for Death Stranding. However, it's hard to tell considering that the patent application was filed even before the game was released. Sony submitted the application for the patent back in 2019, but it was only recently approved on December 7, 2021. At the very least, it looks like developers won't be able to use any of the specifically described features used in the game's path-building technique without risking legal action from Sony.

New Apex Legends Patch Will Include Controller-Based Bug, Fix Already In The Works

The Matrix Resurrections Trailer 2 Breakdown: All Of The Easter Eggs And References

What a way to kick off the week! The second trailer for the upcoming The Matrix Resurrections has been released, revealing even more about what to expect from the next film in the franchise. While the first trailer served as a nice introduction, this time we get some hints at the story and who the various characters are.

Of course, Neo (Keanu Reeves) and Trinity (Carrie Ann Moss) are there, along with the person we are convinced is a young Morpheus (Yahya Abdul-Mateen II) and a returning (and much older) Niobe (Jade Pinkett-Smith). But we also get some clues as to who, exactly, Jonathan Groff is playing in the film and a little context for what's been happening in the world since 2003's The Matrix Revolutions.

Take a look at everything we learned from the new trailer below--including a copious amount of Easter eggs to let your nerd brain devour as you wait with anticipation for the Matrix franchise to be on the big screen once again.

Deja vu

After the first trailer reintroduced the world of the Matrix, we now see it looks as though Neo is living life in a loop. The new trailer opens with a moment he shares with Trinity, before immediately flashing back to a similarly framed shot from the original trilogy.

The new Smith

We then see a shot of Agent Smith from the original films, saying, "Billions of people just living out their lives," before shifting to Jonathan Groff's new character in Resurrections, finishing, "Oblivious."

The whole mouth thing

We then see Groff's mouth sealing closed, much like Neo's in the first film.

Red pill or blue pill

We then see Neo watching the red pill or blue pill moment from the original film--as it's being projected on a wall. We're not going to say the movie The Matrix exists within the Matrix but, well, where did this footage come from?

The white room

After a montage of shots from the new film, as well as the original, Neo "wakes up" in the blank room from the first film. His initial training room. "I remember this," he says.

The machine world

Clearly, the machines are still running the world and have yet to find a better power source than human batteries.

Training

Here we see young Morpheus laying a pretty harsh beating on Neo in the training simulator.

Is this how he survived

Next, we see a shot of Neo. He's clean-shaven and it looks as though this is from just after the third film, where we are left thinking Neo is dead. Here, it looks like the machines are hard at work on him and it even looks like he has some added machine parts, specifically what looks almost like a metal spine going down his chest. Are these upgrades and what do they do?

Reentering the Matrix

Here we hear Morpheus telling Neo exactly how he wound up back in the Matrix. "They made you believe their world was all you deserved," he says. "But some part of you knew that was a lie. Some part of you knew what was real."

Niobe's back

This is where things get very confusing. We hear a familiar voice saying, "It's so easy to forget how much noise the Matrix pumps into your head. Something else makes the same kind of noise: war." That voice belongs to none other than Niobe (Jada Pinkett-Smith. However, while it seems like we're dealing with a much younger Morpheus in this film, Niobe has aged. Her hair is graying and her face is weathered. Strangely, it looks as though she's aged more than Neo and Trinity. So how many timelines are at play here? And how many years have passed since the events of the original trilogy?

Also worth noting that in this particular scene we see that Neo still rocks the buzz cut outside of the Matrix.

Yeah, he's the new Smith

If we wanted more confirmation that Groff's character is the new Smith, we see him in the rain screaming "Mr. Anderson" at Neo, just like his old foe did.

She believed in me

Though they may not know each other inside of the Matrix, that doesn't seem to be the case outside of it. When it comes time to decide if Trinity should be rescued, Neo offers, "She believed in me," referring to the events of the first film. "It's my turn to believe in her."

Super Trinity

We then see a shot of Trinity using her brute and seemingly superhuman strength to get the upper hand on a group of SWAT officers trying to take her down. and one again, just like the first trailer, we see her super scream.

Neo's got powers too

We also see Neo riding on the back of Trinity's motorcycle stopping vehicles with his hands. Yes, it looks like Neo is using the Force. No, they won't call it that.

The power of love

Sure, Neo and Trinity are two extremely powerful people inside of the Matrix, but it looks like them together is an even more powerful force. As they fight their way through hordes of cops trying to stop them, they grasp each other's hands, with bright light emitting from them. Maybe it's like a human Voltron situation where they join together to create the ultimate fighting machine.

I saw this in a dream

On the rooftop where we saw Neo use the Force to hurl a rocket at a helicopter in the first trailer, Trinity tells him, "I saw this in a dream. My dream ended here."

Is this where these two meet their end? We seriously doubt it, besides...

I still know Kung Fu

Some things you never forget, like martial arts. After beating up Groff's character and using what can only be described as an attempted Hadouken, Neo utters the best line in a movie ever. "I still know Kung Fu."

Call Of Duty: Warzone The Last Hours Of Verdansk Event Is Live

Call of Duty: Vanguard will get Warzone integration with the new Caldera map on December 8, but players have one final event to bid farewell to the Verdansk map. The Last Hours of Verdansk is now live in Warzone, bringing a limited-time playlist that sends players searching World War II bomber crashes.

The Last Hours of Verdansk was originally scheduled for November 30, but was quietly postponed for December 6. In this final goodbye to Verdansk, matches are played in trios with similar rules to Rebirth Island's Resurgence mode, which allows for fallen sqaudmates to respawn on each other as long as at least one member of the squad is still alive. This also means the Gulag is closed, and each player starts with one self-revive item. Otherwise, this plays out mostly like a regular match of battle royale on Verdansk, with players looting for weapons and fighting to survive the circle collapses.

In addition to survival, World War II bomber planes fill the skies above Verdansk, and planes will periodically crash and need to be searched. Searching a plane crash gives a marked intel point on the map, and players must successfully collect four pieces of intel. Near the final circle, players must avoid missile barrages and secure a marked underground bunker location to get the win. The last trio or player standing can win by being the last survivor or by securing the bunker.
