New Beyond Good And Evil 2 Video Shows Off The Game's Progress

Following its surprise reveal at E3, Ubisoft has now released a new video showcasing Beyond Good & Evil 2. Rather than a typical trailer, it features a mixture of gameplay footage and interviews with the developers, who continue to attempt a more open, collaborative development process that includes fans.

Much of the video centers around developer Ubisoft Montpellier's aspirations for the game. Senior creative director Michel Ancel described being focused on bringing players' motivations into the game, while senior producer Guillaume Brunier spoke about wanting to include the complete pirate experience--just with an outer-space twist. That includes the ability to board enemy ships and hunt for treasure. Later in the video, we get a look at the wide variety of ship designs that are currently possible.

The video also talks up the Space Monkey Program, which is the name for Ubisoft's open design initiative. Ubisoft Montpellier is sharing details about the game much earlier than we're accustomed to, and it's inviting players to share their feedback. Ancel said the goal is to blur the line between developers and passionate fans.

Ancel also acknowledged how long the game is taking, explaining, "We don't say no. We say yes to giant spaceships, [bringing] lots of friends into the spaceship, online adventures, the solo experience also. All these things--we say yes we can make it we can connect all the features together. But nobody has ever made this kind of thing a video game before, so the pressure is still on, which is good."

There's no doubting Ubisoft and Ancel's ambition, though when we had the opportunity to try the game, we found that Beyond Good & Evil 2 was not what we had imagined. Whether that turns out to be a good thing remains to be seen. The game does not yet have a release date, but you can sign up to be a part of the Space Monkey Program at the official website.

New Pacific Rim: Uprising Video Shows Making Of Kaiju Battles

Though Pacific Rim: Uprising is still four months away from release, fans of the franchise are getting a look at what goes into creating its epic monsters vs. robots battles. A special sizzle reel for the film debuted at Tokyo Comic-Con, which goes behind the scenes of the kaiju movie. Uprising takes place a decade after Guillermo del Toro's original 2013 Pacific Rim film.

"I grew up watching the old giant monster movies from Japan, the classics like Ultraman, Space Giants, and, of course, Godzilla. I just ate it up," director Steven S. DeKnight, whose previous work includes Season 1 of Daredevil, says. "With the technology we have, we have a chance to make it that much more spectacular."

The technology is rather impressive, too. Combining green-screen elements, practical effects, and computer-generated imagery builds the world of the movie, as John Boyega (Star Wars: The Last Jedi) plays the son of Stacker Pentecost (Idris Elba's role in the first film), leading a team that pilots the giant mechanized warriors against humongous monsters. "Everybody has felt that feeling when those monsters go through a city. it creates an instant excitement," the actor says. "Pacific Rim: Uprising gives an answer back to those monsters that we've grown up watching."

Joining Boyega in the film are Scott Eastwood and Cailee Sapeny, among others. Additionally, both Rinku Kukuchi (Mako Mori) and Charlie Day (Dr. Newt Geiszler) reprise their roles from the first film.

Pacific Rim: Uprising is in theaters March 23, 2018. Should it be well-received, there are already talks of extending the franchise even further.

Black Lightning Trailer Gives The CW's Newest Superhero An Origin Story

The CW is getting a new superhero in January. Black Lightning is the latest DC Comics adaptation for the network and a new trailer gives potential fans unfamiliar with the character a look at his backstory. "Black Lightning is back," the trailer declares, as retired superhero Jefferson Pierce (Cress Williams) once again suits up and puts his powers of electricity to use to save his city.

It's a definite departure for The CW, which usually features much younger actors portraying their star superheroes. Whereas The Flash's Grant Gustin is 27, Williams is 47. Then again, it's also a departure in that the origin of this superhero starts in the middle of his story. The series picks up long after Pierce's first stint as a superhero--a job he gave up for his family.

As the trailer shows, though, he hasn't lost a step. Between his fighting skills and the ability to shoot electrical blasts from his hands with little effort, Pierce is ready to take on the gang attempting to corrupt his community.

Black Lightning was originally created by Tony Isabella in 1977 and was the first black superhero to be given his own comic book. It's only fitting that the character is also the first black superhero to lead his own TV show.

Williams is joined in the series by China Anne McClain and Nafessa Williams, who play his daughters, along with Christine Adams, and James Remar. Black Lightning premieres on Tuesday, January 16, at 9 PM ET/PT, following The Flash. It's important to note that at this point the series does not exist in the same universe as The CW's other superhero shows.

Jurassic World 2's Plot Details Include An Erupting Volcano

Just two days before the release of the Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom trailer, plot details from the upcoming film have been revealed. Somehow, the sequel to Jurassic World is going in an even crazier direction than building a theme park filled with dinosaurs and being surprised when it all goes wrong.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, star Bryce Dallas Howard reveals some interesting information about where the second Jurassic World finds her character. "Claire's founded an organization, Dinosaur Protection Group, and they’re finding a way to get these dinosaurs off the island," she says. "She reaches out to Owen Grady [Chris Pratt] to let him know this is happening."

There's a lot to unpack there. First and foremost, rather than escaping the dinosaurs, Jurassic World 2 seems to be about helping them survive. Beyond that, EW says the new film is set several years after the 2015 first installment and now there's a volcano on the island home of the abandoned theme park, which is about to erupt.

Thus far, there's no explanation as to why anybody would build a dinosaur theme park on an island with a volcano. Then again, perhaps it's better to not ask questions and just let it happen. Producer Colin Trevorrow, who directed the first film, has already said the new Jurassic World would be more scary and suspenseful. This is likely the exact kind of thing he's talking about.

Something else that the actress's quote gives away is that Claire and Owen didn't necessarily end up together, even if the original Jurassic World gave that impression. As for what Owen's been up to since being forced to evacuate his trailer on the island, that remains a mystery.

Once the trailer releases, chances are many more details about the new film will come into focus. The next chapter in the Jurassic World franchise also stars BD Wong, James Cromwell, Justice Smith, and Daniella Pineda. Jeff Goldblum, who starred in the original Jurassic Park, will reprise his role as Dr. Ian Malcolm in the film.

Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom lands in theaters on June 22, 2018.
