Bytepath Is Basically Asteroids With A Ridiculous Amount Of Stats And Skills

"Asteroids with RPG elements" sums up Bytepath quite succinctly. At its core, you're recognize the formula - your ship besieged by space rocks from all sides - but this new shmup adds layers of complexity to its rock-blasting action and low-fi glitched-out aesthetic.

Ship, class, and skills. With these three categories, Bytepath introduces a system for myriad builds and approaches for dealing with increasingly-challenging waves of asteroids and other threats. Your vessel moves forward automatically and your bullets fire automatically as well, leaving you to control movement and speed to weave between rock clusters. That alone could make for a challenging game, but crafting a build is just as crucial as evasion. Ship type influences starting stats - speed, luck, projectile behavior, health, and so on - while your class adds starting modifiers: the size of your projectiles, buffs to your existing stats, the rate of your boost recharge.

But the most crucial factor is Bytepath's immense skill tree, dozens of passive abilities and branching paths that can change your playstyle in countless ways. With the right choices, you can design a ship imbued with invulnerability while boosting and stat buffs that rapidly increase boost charging, or a slow damage-absorbing tank with infinite ammo that randomly switches projectile type at certain intervals. The range of possibilities is extensive, and you'll need those skills to survive Bytepath's toughest stages.

Bytepath is available on Steam for $1.99; you can learn more about the game and developer SSYGEN on Twitter.
