Star Wars: The Last Jedi Deleted Scene Changes Finn And Phasma's Battle

With the upcoming Blu-ray release of Star Wars: The Last Jedi will come deleted scenes from the film that give fans ideas about what could have been. The first look at cut footage has been released and it completely reimagines a scene that ended up in the film.

The new scene debuted during the latest episode of The Star Wars Show and you can see it at the 1:35 mark in the video below. The clip features Finn (John Boyega) surrounded by four stormtroopers and Captain Phasma (Gwendoline Christie). It's there that Finn hits Phasma with a dose of truth--that she chose to preserve her own life over keeping Starkiller Base safe in Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

Upon realizing that the stormtroopers around her might actually believe the words Finn is saying, Phasma quickly cuts them down with a blaster. However, that allows Finn to spring into action in a particularly classic Star Wars fashion, as he chops off Phasma's hand and blasts her off a ledge to her presumed death. Of course, before that, Phasma reminds him that he's always been scum to her, just as she did in the finished film. "Rebel scum," he replies.

While the outcome is the same, with Finn declaring himself to be rebel scum and finishing off Phasma once and for all--then again, she could always somehow survive this too--this moment gives the chrome-covered stormtrooper some series character development, as it shows how willing she is to turn against her own when it comes to self-survival.

It'll be interesting to see what other deleted scenes come with the movie's home release and how they reshape the film. Hopefully, there will be the one Mark Hamill teased featuring Luke Skywalker and Laura Dern's Vice Admiral Holdo. Star Wars: The Last Jedi arrives on Blu-ray on March 27.
