No matter what you think of films, Adam Sandler is a hit machine in terms of numbers and widespread appeal. So it was a big deal when Netflix signed Sandler for a four-movie deal back in 2014, bypassing theatrical releases for the digital streamer. Netflix doubled down on that deal last year, signing Sandler for a further four films. The latest of these, The Week Of, is coming April, and now a new trailer for the comedy has arrived.
In The Week Of, Sandler plays a middle class father who wants to pay for his daughter's wedding. Opposite him is the father of the groom (Chris Rock), who is wealthy and eager to foot the bill for a wedding that doesn't take place in a run-down hotel. A bunch of unfortunate things happen, leading the two men and their families to live together under the same roof for "the longest week of their lives" leading up to the wedding.
The Week Of debuts on Netflix on April 27. It also stars Rachel Dratch and Steve Buscemi (and a giant Toberlone bar).
This is Sandler's fourth Netflix movie so far, following The Ridiculous Six (2015), The Do-Over (2016), and Sandy Wexler (2017). Sandler also starred in and gave a widely praised performance in the Netflix movie The Meyerowitz Stories (New and Selected), but this was outside of his own Netflix deal.
Sandler's last big theatrical movie, the 2015 video game film Pixels, was a bit of a letdown with only $78 million in the United States. However, it made more than $166 million internationally, pushing its global haul to around $244 million.
