Avengers: Infinity War Breaks More Records On Way To $1 Billion

Avengers: Infinity War continues to hit box office milestones, making it that much more likely to break the record for the fastest movie to $1 billion in global sales. Deadline reports that as of Monday evening it had hit $725.5 million worldwide. That puts it on track to hit a billion sometime this weekend. If it reaches that number by Friday it would have done it in 10 days, breaking the 12-day record from Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

The record-smashing is due in no small part to its international success. The domestic box office take is $282 million, while the international share is a whopping $443 million. Leading those international markets are the UK, Korea, and Mexico, respectively.

This comes after the Marvel crossover event took the records for biggest domestic opening weekend and biggest global opening weekend, from The Force Awakens and The Fate of the Furious, respectively. This has already led to a little friendly congratulations from fellow Disney-owned studio Lucasfilm.

GameSpot's Avengers: Infinity War review praised its impressive balance and the payoff of a storyline years in the making. Much of the attention and discussion surrounding the movie has been about the surprises, which the directors are now feeling free to discuss. Of course, actor Mark Ruffalo (who plays Hulk) apparently felt that freedom almost a year ago.
