The Big New 2K Game--Possibly Borderlands 3 Or Something Else--Has Been Delayed

Take-Two, the parent company of Rockstar Games and 2K Games, confirmed today that one of 2K's big upcoming and unannounced games has been delayed. As part of the company's earnings report, Take-Two said the "highly anticipated title from one of 2K's biggest franchises" is now planned to launch in fiscal year 2020.

The game was previously scheduled to launch during fiscal year 2019, which runs April 2018 through March 2019. Fiscal year 2020 covers April 2019 through March 2020, so that's when you can expect this new sequel from 2K.

Explaining the delay, Take-Two said the team needed more development time. "We remain as excited as ever about this title, and expect it to enhance our results next fiscal year," management said.

Intriguingly, Take-Two CFO Lainie Goldstein teased that there will be some amount of marketing spend for this new game during the current fiscal year. This suggests that the game will be announced before March 2019. 2K is attending E3 next month, so one possibility is that the game will be revealed there.

Take-Two has been talking about this "highly anticipated" sequel for a long time now, despite it never being officially announced. Speculation has suggested that the game may be Borderlands 3, or whatever the next title in the series ends up being called. Regardless, a new Borderlands is known to be in development. Gearbox president Randy Pitchford said the game may not be at E3, though he did leave himself some wiggle room in his statement.

Another possibility is the new BioShock game that is reportedly in development. Back in April, Kotaku reported that a top-secret new BioShock game was in the works at a studio in Novato, California.

It's also possible that the delayed game is something else entirely, though it is expected to be a sequel given that Take-Two said it is an instalment in one of its "biggest franchises."

With E3 coming up soon, we're expecting lots of new game announcements soon, so keep checking back for more.
