SoulCalibur 6 Brings Back A Classic Villain

Inferno has been revealed as the latest character joining the SoulCalibur VI roster. The longtime series antagonist made his debut in Soul Blade, and served as the main villain for a number of follow-up titles before taking a back seat to newer villains. However, it looks like he's back with a vengeance in the newest entry in the series.

Inferno wields the legendary Soul Edge and his fighting style is described as, "Whatever the fighting style of those under his control" is. In other words, he's a mimic character that has many of the moves of other fighters. The gameplay trailer above shows just how devastating this can be, as he quickly moves around the arena doing huge, sweeping attacks in a relentless assault. Defending against that is going to be tricky, even more so given how distracting his visage is.

"As the evil spirit of Soul Edge, Inferno is fearsome, possessing deep knowledge of fighting techniques which he mimics with uncanny skill, allowing him to use any weapon and fighting style with a phenomenal degree of expertise," developer and publisher Bandai Namco explains. "Inferno's power defies standard means of measurement, if one were only comparing skill and weaponry, then Inferno easily transcends any of Soul Edge's previous vessels."

At Tokyo Game Show 2018 we got hands-on time with SoulCalibur VI's two story modes and spoke to producer Motohiro Okubo about what players can expect from Libra of Souls and Chronicle of the Soul. In addition, we dove into character customization and how the process compares to previous games in the series.

SoulCalibur VI is set to release for PS4, Xbox One, and PC on October 19. Tira, a character that was first introduced in SoulCalibur III, will be available as day-one DLC. Watch our 8-minute gameplay video to see more of SoulCalibur VI in action.
