Fortnite Season 8 Is Live: Pirates, Ninjas, And Ice Fiends Fight Over Treasure

Epic Games has successfully launched Season 8 of Fortnite and there's a whole load of new content to enjoy. Importantly, however, a new world event has kicked off, and this will set the stage for everything that happens in Fortnite over the coming months.

"A monstrous volcano has appeared," Epic explains on the Fortnite website. "Freed from the Ice King's castle, the now-powerful Prisoner has brought fire and flame to Fortnite and its islands. Pirates, Ninjas, and a ship load of new fighters will tussle over treasure, battle with Pirate Cannons and uncover legendary loot."

That's right, finally, Pirates Vs. Ninjas in Fortnite. Of course, the arrival of these new factions along with the appearance of a giant volcano has had a significant impact on the island itself. As a result, there are new locations on the map: Lazy Lagoon and Sunny Steps. On top of that, Volcanic Vents have appeared around the island, and the gusts of air that they fire out can be used to launch yourself and your vehicles into the sky.

Of course, Season 8 also brings with it a new Battle Pass, and you can learn exactly what that means in our Battle Pass explainer. The short of it is that there's 100 new tiers to level up the Battle Pass through, which means a whole bunch of new cosmetics, and challenges to complete alongside them. Plenty for both avid Fortnite fans and newcomers to sink their teeth into.

You can see everything that's new, tweaked, and changed in the full Fortnite update 8.0 patch notes. Along with the world event, Epic has introduced a new cannon weapon, which can be used to destroy structures from a distance. Alternatively, a player can hop inside the cannon and fire themselves across the island, which is a very handy way to cover ground and catch an enemy by surprise.
