Hello everyone, and welcome to the week! It’s time once again for our look back at the noteworthy updates of the last seven days. Some excellent games got updates in the last week, a few of which were quite unexpected. Naturally, some of the usual suspects showed up again as well, so it’s quite a nice bag of treats all around this week. Of course, you can keep an eye out for updates yourself using AppShopper or by participating in the TouchArcade forums. This weekly summary is just here to fill you in on the things you might have missed. Let’s go for it!
Star Trek Fleet Command, Free You know, I didn’t expect this game to catch on at all, but it seems like it’s actually doing very well. Go figure. Anyway, its latest update adds the kind of stuff people generally want to see in a game like this: more ships and more officers. On the player side, the D3 (Rogue) is now available, while the Bortas (Rogue), D4 (Rogue), and B’Rel (Rogue) join the game as hostile ships. For new officers, we’ve got “John Harrison" from Star Trek Into Darkness, Hikaru Sulu’s alternate timeline sister Yuki Sulu, and a third character I don’t recognize named Paul Zhou. This update also includes an assortment of bug fixes for greater trekking pleasure.
Matchington Mansion, Free One of those cases where a pretty blatant knock-off somehow rivals the original or even surpasses it in popularity, Matchington Mansion seems to be the latest hot thing in F2P puzzle games. Given that the game itself doesn’t venture far from the ‘Scapes games, you can probably guess what the latest update contains: more levels, a new room, and more story. You get more than 60 new levels, and the room in question is a playground, which is not so much a room as it is a yard design. But that’s fine.
CSR Racing 2, Free The Fast & Furious tie-in has returned to CSR Racing 2. The Siberia track is back, and so are the various cars that were introduced in that event. Other new cars in this update include the Glickenhaus 004C, the Porsche 911 Carrera 4S Cabriolet, the Ford Shelby GT500, the BMW M5 Competition, and the Lamborghini SC18. There’s also a special Easter event in the form of the Rocket Bunny Egg Hunt, which has you competing to try to win a Mazda RX-7 Rocket Bunny in a special turquoise color. Plenty of stuff to keep you busy until the next update.
MARVEL Contest of Champions, Free As Captain Marvel heads out on the final stretch to making a billion dollars at the box office worldwide, many of the in-game events connected to the movie across Marvel’s various games are wrapping up. Contest of Champions has one very nice final present from the tie-in, however. None other than Nick Fury has joined the playable roster, and he’s quite an interesting fighter. And who wouldn’t want Nick Fury on their team? I mean, you don’t want him on the other team, that’s for sure.
Bloons TD 5, $2.99 Yes, you’re seeing that right. Bloons TD 5 is still getting updates even though it has at least one successor out there. I mean, it’s not a huge update, but it’s something, and that is pretty cool. In this update, you’ll be exploring an all-new intermediate map called Ancient Tomb. Can you recover the lost golden bananas of Tutankhabloon? If you’re not confident in your own abilities, this map does allow you to take a friend along in co-op mode. Something to consider. Anyway, good on the developers for keeping the game alive even when they have every excuse in the world to just let it go.
Minecraft, $6.99 Everyone’s favorite game that came from space has some new stuff to play around with in its latest update. There are some new blocks, for starters. Lanterns, looms, lecterns, and wood blocks with bark are all available to spruce up your home or other designs. Ha, spruce. Because wood, you see. A new weapon set is available, too. The crossbow and shield won’t guide you wrong, friends. A new cat skin has been put into the game that was voted on by the players, and some new Vanilla textures are in the game as well. Finally, you can get a first glimpse at the new hostile Pillager in Creative Mode. Neat stuff.
MARVEL Future Fight, Free Future Fight, on the other hand, has fully wrapped up its Captain Marvel event and seems to be trying to squeeze in a couple more before Avengers: Endgame makes its presence known. The latest event is based on X-Force and it adds Warpath, Juggernaut, and Sabretooth to the game while adding new costumes for existing members Wolverine, Deadpool, and Nightcrawler. Wolverine gets a Tier-3 upgrade, giving him some wild new skills to shred enemies with. There’s also a story expansion and a new uniform collection to check out.
SEGA Heroes: Match-3 RPG Quest, Free Not much to this update aside from adding another House of the Dead character, Thomas Rogan. That said, I want to use this little space to point out that SEGA Heroes is starting to go down a very bad path with its events. Each event gives out great rewards, but to even have a small chance of getting said rewards, you need certain characters. In the first event, those characters were more or less drawn from the pool everyone can access, but each successive event has used the prize character from the last one, which means the winners continue to win even more easily while those who didn’t fare well are at an even greater disadvantage next time. It’s not a great way to design events, in my opinion. Oh well, I guess we all get to suffer like G did.
Sentinels of the Multiverse, $1.99 I’m not sure how much noise is being made about it in general, but Sentinels of the Multiverse got a very significant update last week. It has now officially caught up to the physical card game, which means this is probably the last big update for the game in the foreseeable future. It’s a big one, too. Dubbed OblivAeon, this mega-expansion includes five new heroes, five environments, and the final Multiverse-ending battle against the boss of it all. Those who own the Season Pass 2 can just go ahead and download this add-on at no additional charge. Everyone else can get it by picking up its IAP in the Expansion Packs sub-screen. For finally capping off a multi-year job on this multiverse, I’m happy to give Sentinels of the Multiverse this week’s coveted UMMSotW award.
Wayward Souls, $6.99 Let’s finish things up with an update to one of my favorite games on iOS, Wayward Souls. Jared has already talked about why it’s important to download this update, and I’ll echo him here. While this update just makes some technical fixes to address compatibility issues, the developer is using it to gauge interest in the game to see if it’s worth bringing a content update to it. If you want to play the Paladin’s scenario in the mobile version of the game, it’s imperative that you download this update. Let’s try and make that happen, friends.
