The meaning of existence. I’m sure you’ve pondered about it at least once in your life.
Life in itself is a revelation, and pretty much everyone seeks out some meaning in their day-to-day lives. What Walden, a game does is show you a brief glimpse into our realm of existence, finding meaning within the natural places around you.
Walden, a game, explores the life of Henry David Thoreau when he attempted to live by himself by Walden Pond. Based on various documents by him, primarily the titular Walden, and by others like his mentor Ralph Waldo Emerson, the game explores and reflects on life and the human existence.
The game itself is a semi-survival game, but its main draw is the various texts and letters you find and create as you explore. These texts reveal more backstory on his life and the people connected to him. Think of Dear Esther, but with more focus on nature.
The overall experience of Walden, a game is one of reflection and contemplation. If you’re looking for a serious survival game, this is not for you. Instead, this would appeal to those who are looking for a meditative encounter with nature, spending time within yourself as you wander through the soothing natural places surrounding you.
This is one game that you’ve to experience it in all its glory, for what is life not for the experience?
Walden, a game is available now on PS4, Itch.io, and Steam. It is also in development for the Xbox One.
