Disney's animated movie Frozen II has become the highest-grossing animated film in history. After another weekend in the Top 10 box office charts, the movie has now made $1.325 billion worldwide. The 2013 original Frozen was the previous highest-grossing animated movie with $1.274 billion worldwide.
Another Disney movie, the new Lion King, made $1.65 billion at the global box office, though this film is officially categorized by Disney as live-action instead of animated.
A total of nine animated movies have crossed $1 billion at the box office throughout history, and Disney has produced seven of them. The only exceptions are Minions ($1.16 billion) and Despicable Me 3 ($1.035 billion), both of which were produced by Illumination and Universal. Those are the companies that are making the new Mario movie with Nintendo for release in 2022.
