Media giant NBC's push into the digital streaming market has gotten off to a strong start. Parent company Comcast announced on Thursday that the streaming service Peacock now has 33 million sign-ups in the US, which is up from 26 million at the end of 2020.
The 33 million figure covers free accounts and those who pay for the premium, ad-free version of Peacock. As GameSpot sister site CNET points out, the number of sign-ups is not necessarily equal to the number of people who actually use the service.
Peacock is only available in the United States right now. It launched back in July, but the platform's main offering so far--The Office--didn't arrive until January 1 after its agreement with Netflix came to an end. Peacock has "hundreds" of TV shows and movies, along with a live news channel and a variety of sports content.
