Genshin Impact Finally Reveals Next Banner Character, Hu Tao

Mihoyo has confirmed that the final character banner for Genshin Impact's update 1.3 will feature 5-star Hu Tao, a pyro polearm user who is the director of the Wangsheng Funeral Parlor. While Hu Tao was expected to arrive during update 1.3 after being revealed by dataminers, her character banner wasn't announced with the others when the update was released.

Update 1.3, Mihoyo's latest big content drop for Genshin Impact, hasn't followed the formula players have come to expect from the game. Instead of two character banners it featured three, shorter ones, and the last one has been kept a mystery until now, only a few days before it's due to launch.

Hu Tao has mostly been mentioned as part of other characters' voice lines until now, though her artwork, character model, and idle animation had already been unearthed by dataminers. Hu Tao's abilities include a HP-consuming stance that converts all her damage to pyro damage and marks enemies to deal extra damage, while her Elemental Burst restores HP based on the number of enemies hit by its AOE attack.

Monster Hunter Rise Is Officially Coming To PC

Monster Hunter Rise, which until now had only been announced for the Nintendo Switch, was said to be coming to other platforms in documents that were part of a massive Capcom data leak late last year. Now, thanks to reporting by Fanbyte, Rise is confirmed to be coming to the PC in 2022.

The new information was revealed in an interview with Monster Hunter producer Ryozo Tsujimoto and director Yasunori Ichinose. The developers said that Monster Hunter Rise was very much made for the Switch, saying that the team "were aware of [the console's] shortcomings and abilities" while developing the game.

This may explain the long wait for the PC version of the game, due out next year, which the developers cautioned was "still very much in development." It'll be interesting to see how the PC port stacks up against the version made for Nintendo's less powerful hybrid console, though it's unlikely we'll see footage of the port until the Switch version has released.

Call Of Duty: Black Ops Cold War Patch Notes -- Outbreak Bugs Squashed

Treyarch has released a new update for Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War, and almost all of it addresses issues players have encountered since Outbreak launched with Season 2. The ambitious new mode is a large-scale spin on Zombies, complete with its own story, so it's hardly surprising that some rough edges needed to be fixed.

Outbreak received a general stability improvement as part of the update, particularly regarding objectives and both the Krasny Soldat and the Dragon Relic. You also shouldn't see Mimics teleport away after they're spawned from loot chests, nor should the HVT Megaton split when it's hit by a vehicle.

A few other fixes were also included in the update, such as UI and tooltips not showing up correctly, and a player's Operator model disappearing. It's not the largest update we've seen in Call of Duty, but we got one of those just a few days ago. In fact, the file sizes for both Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War and Warzone have gotten so large that players with 500GB PS4 systems may struggle to keep the games installed. This is especially true if they're interested in playing anything else, as some of that 500GB is needed for the console's operating system and can't be used to store games.

Valorant Agent Astra Comes To Game Alongside Battle Pass On March 2

Riot Games has revealed a new agent for Valorant, Astra, who will be able to cause chaos with astronomy-themed attacks and a powerful Gravity Well ability. The agent, originally from Ghana, acts as a controller in matches and should help to keep the other team from making coordinated strikes. She'll be live in the game on March 2.

One of the most unique aspects of Astra is her ability to soar above the map in order to get a better perspective, though you'll be leaving her actual, physical body at risk of being attacked while you do so. Using her Astral Form, she's able to place down stars that can then be turned into a Nebula, powerful Nova Pulse, or a Gravity Well that traps and damages those caught inside.

A new battle pass is also on the way, giving you more cosmetic unlockables for Valorant's characters. It costs 1,000 VP, with the paid track giving you a Prism III Axe melee, Cavalier Vandal, Cavalier Operator, Make Some Noise spray, and Versus // Sova + Cypher card. A few freebies are available, too, including a Prism III Classic pistol and a Dumpster Fire spray.

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Is Getting A Board Game

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim has been ported to just about everything at this point, including Nintendo Switch and even Amazon Alexa. But Modiphius Entertainment sees one more platform it can be on: cardboard. The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim - The Board Game is in the works, and it appears the company will be seeking crowdfunding to make it possible.

In a listing on the crowdfunding site Gamefound, Modiphius described The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim - The Board Game as an "epic cooperative board game" that will be playable by one to four players. It's honestly baffling that it took this long for a Skyrim board game to be made at all.

E3 2021 In-Person Event Canceled, Tourism Board Says

It's news that isn't particularly shocking, but it was all but inevitable. E3 2021 has been canceled as an in-person event, with the Board of Los Angeles Department of Convention and Tourism Development Commissioners planning some sort of digital replacement to be broadcast from the city.

The news, shared by VGC and available as part of an 84-page presentation on the city's official website, lists E3 2021 as a "canceled live event in 2021," with potential broadcast options at LA Live and/or the Los Angeles Convention Center. The same update says the city is still working on the license for the next two years' conferences.

We did already know that the ESA was considering doing a very different sort of E3 for 2021, per a statement it gave to GameSpot earlier this month. The organization said it was "transforming the E3 experience for 2021" and added that it would share details on publishers' involvement in the event soon.

How To Create A Valheim Dedicated Server, Invite Friends, And Join

Playing Valheim with friends is the premier way to enjoy the viking survival game. To do that, you'll need to either create servers in the game so other players can join you, or join them in their servers. Valheim's menus can be a bit confusing to navigate, though, especially if you don't really know much about local hosting or dedicated servers. And even joining games can be a little wonky, requiring you to use Steam's menus to find servers using IP addresses.

Check out the guide below for everything you need to know to set up your own servers or join someone else's in Valheim. It's also worth noting that if you're looking for new co-op viking friends, you can check the Community server list and join in with other people you don't know--although you should do so at your own risk, since you never know if your new friends might turn out to be griefers. It's also good practice to check for Discord servers to go with your Valheim servers so you can talk to other players.

We've got even more Valheim coverage so be sure to check out our guides for upgrading your Workbench, crafting armor, hunting down Iron, and beating The Elder.

The Workbench in Valheim is more like your crafting workhorse. Tom Holland Made Mistakes While Filming Uncharted, He Says

Looking cool as Spider-Man is one thing--Peter Parker is a dork, and the CGI does a lot of the work for Spidey in costume. But with a character like Nathan Drake, most of that responsibility falls on the actor. Tom Holland plays Drake in the upcoming Uncharted film, and talked in a new interview with GQ about getting distracted by his own coolness.

"As soon as you start worrying about 'Do I look good in this shot?' acting becomes something other than playing a character," Holland explained. "I think there are elements of my performance in Uncharted where I kind of fell under that spell of being 'I want to look good now. I want this to be my cool moment.' I had to play this very tough, very stoic guy--basically, be Mark Wahlberg."

Holland admitted, however, that he hasn't yet seen the finished film, leaving what the lens captured up to our imaginations for the time being.

Ubisoft's Werewolves Within Film Hits Theaters June 25

Werewolves Within, the film based on Ubisoft's VR game of the same name, is officially heading to theaters June 25 thanks to IFC Films, Ubisoft announced today.

The premise of the movie is much the same as the game it was based on. Werewolves Within is a VR version of a game you've almost definitely played. Mafia or One Night Ultimate Werewolf around a table; Among Us from your phone or computer. One player is a monster, and the other players have to suss out which of their friends is out for blood before time runs out.

The film runs along the same lines: Set in the small town of Beaverfield, a snowstorm traps a group of residents inside a local inn, and its up to the new forest ranger, played by Sam Richardson (Veep) and postal worker Cecily, played Milana Vayntrub (AT&T's Lily, This is Us), have to keep the peace.

Pokemon Legends: Arceus' Starter Pokemon Have A Hidden Link

The Pokemon Company recently revealed a brand-new Pokemon game, Pokemon Legends: Arceus, coming to Nintendo Switch in early 2022. As part of that reveal, we got to see the game's three starter Pokemon, all of which hail from different regions--Cyndaquil from Gen 2's Johto, Rowlet from Gen 7's Alola, and Oshawott from Gen 5's Unova.

At first glance, these three Pokemon look like completely random picks, and no core Pokemon game thus far has ever combined starter Pokemon from previous generations in this way. However, Pokemon Legends: Arceus is set far in the Sinnoh region's past, and the style of the reveal trailer lends the game a very feudal Japan feel--think shogunates and samurai. The Sinnoh region is based on Hokkaido, the northernmost island of Japan, which came under feudal rule during this era of history.

So how do Cyndaquil, Rowlet, and Oshawott fit into that theme? Oshawott is the most obvious: Its final evolution is Samurott, a portmanteau of samurai and otter, and the armor on Samurott's legs is reminiscent of samurai armor. That's as natural a fit for the setting as you can get.

Nomura Is Handing Over Final Fantasy 7 Remake Co-Director Role

Along with the reveal of Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade's story content and PS5 upgrade, Tetsuya Nomura gave some updates to the development process of FF7 Remake's future. In a translated interview by Famitsu (provided to us by Square Enix), Nomura explained that he's transitioning away from being the co-director of the project, and that Naoki Hamaguchi will now be the sole director moving forward. However, Nomura mentioned that not much will change for him.

When asked about his role as a director and concept designer for the multiple projects in the works, Nomura prefaced, "There have been three Final Fantasy 7-related games announced, but as I mentioned before, I have more projects on my plate at the moment than ever before." He then explained that the foundation has already been established and that he can pass on the role, saying, "For Remake, the core gameplay direction has now been worked out and we can see the points that need improving, so I will hand over directorship to Mr. Hamaguchi (co-director on FF7 Remake) for the next game and continue to be involved in all FF7-related projects, such as the remakes and mobile games, as overall creative director."

If you're wondering how this might affect future entries of FF7 Remake, this move may not make that much of an impact; Nomura stated, "The way I am involved in the development work will basically not change, though."

New To Peacock In March 2021: WWE Fastlane, The Golden Globes, Leprechaun Movies, And More

A new month means far too many new things to watch on a variety of streaming services. Peacock, NBCUniversal's service, might be a new entry to the pack but is no slouch when it comes to its massive library. In fact, March will see dozens of new movies, a slew of TV shows, and its first exclusive WWE pay-per-view event become available.

That pay-per-view event, WWE Fastlane, signifies the integration of the WWE Network into Peacock. The move was first announced in January and will see all of the currently available WWE Network content, as well as future original programming and live events, streaming on Peacock. The WWE Network, in turn, will be shuttered. Fastlane is the final stop on the road to Wrestlemania, WWE's biggest annual show of the year--which will also stream exclusively on Peacock. Fastlane streams live on March 21.

Another major event being added to Peacock in March is the 2021 Golden Globe Awards. The show, which will be hosted by Tina Fey and Amy Poehler, presents awards to those who work on both TV and movies. It arrives on the service on March 1.

WandaVision Episode 8: 22 Easter Eggs, References, And Clues From "Previously On"

Unfortunately, there were no musical numbers this week in WandaVision, but we did get a whole lot of information about what's actually been going on in Westview. Not only did we get a firsthand look at Wanda's history--including her oft talked about but never before seen origin story back in Sokovia--we also got some actual insights into what Agatha Harkness has been doing as she's been pulling "every evil string."

Of course, there are still plenty of questions to consider as well--specifically about SWORD's director Hayward who has been spinning some interesting lies all his own, the fate of Vision when (and if) the HEX ever does come down, and the future of Wanda's kids who may or may not be in the same precarious boat as their "dad." There's also the issue of Wanda's position in the MCU at large, the nature of her powers, and what they could mean for her moving forward.

With only one episode of the show remaining, let's take a look at some of the biggest Easter Eggs, references, call-backs, and tiny details you should note this week.

Monster Hunter Rise Fine-Tunes Many Of The Series' Familiar Elements

For all of the innovative features it introduces to the series, Monster Hunter Rise is still very much a traditional Monster Hunter game at its core. Your overarching goal is to embark on quests, then use the various materials you've gathered from those missions to forge better pieces of equipment for your hunter. It's a familiar and compelling gameplay loop, but Rise also fine-tunes the experience in some helpful ways, which Capcom recently demonstrated to us in a video presentation.

Our look at the game took us on a guided tour of Kamura Village, Monster Hunter Rise's primary hub area. Like many other aspects of the game, Kamura has a distinctly Japanese flair. The village is lined with cherry blossom trees, merchant stalls, and thatched buildings, while cat-like Felynes scurry about carrying oversized bundles on their backs.

You'll spend much of your downtime between hunts in Kamura, making use of the village's various vendors and other amenities to prepare for quests, purchase supplies, craft new gear, manage your items, and advance the story. Monster Hunter veterans will be immediately familiar with this routine, but Rise makes things a bit more manageable by introducing some welcome refinements.

Monster Hunter Rise Fine-Tunes Many Of The Series' Familiar Elements

For all of the innovative features it introduces to the series, Monster Hunter Rise is still very much a traditional Monster Hunter game at its core. It's a familiar and compelling gameplay loop, but Rise also fine-tunes the experience in some helpful ways, which Capcom recently demonstrated to us in a video presentation.

Halo Infinite's Open World Honors The Old While Embracing Brand-New Ideas

343 Industries has released an interview-focused blog post for Halo Infinite, which looks at Zeta Halo, the open-world setting of the upcoming game. Halo Infinite campaign art lead Justin Dinges said that one of the largest challenges of creating the space was honoring the nostalgic feel of Halo, while creating something that feels brand-new.

"With Halo Infinite, we wanted to take this new adventure back to its roots and create a visually pleasing experience that doesn't overwhelm with unnecessary complexity where readability and clear artistic composition prevail," Dinges said. "This is our artistic interpretation of a beautiful world to exist within--rather than something that is purely grounded in photo realism. Both goals have been a true challenge to balance, especially against the expectations of what it means to be a 'next-gen' title."

Part of honoring the appeal of Halo's roots comes from Zeta Halo's layout. As an open world, Zeta Halo invokes the same sensation of Halo: Combat Evolved's opening hours when you could approach problems in different ways depending on what weapons you have, vehicles you're driving, or pathways you uncover.

Bridgerton And Winx Saga Top Neilsen's Latest Streaming Ratings

Did you know Netflix's Bridgerton is a popular show? If not, you may have been living on another planet for the last few months. Nielsen released its latest streaming ratings this week, for the week of January 25 to January 31, and guess who's on top?

Indeed, Bridgerton is once again the single most popular streaming program, though it finally dipped below one billion minutes streamed. Fate: The Winx Saga, a live-action adaptation of the Nickelodeon Winx Club series, comes in second. The math here can be deceptive; people streamed 936 million minutes of Bridgerton, and 918 million minutes of Fate: The Winx Saga. The thing to remember is that Bridgerton has been out for two full months, having released on December 25, 2020. Netflix's dump-and-binge method of show releases often means that shows come and go quickly, but Bridgerton is staying strong. Bridgerton viewers between January 4 and January 10 streamed 1.6 billion minutes of the show. For comparison, Cobra Kai, which is still ranked third, dropped from 2.1 billion minutes for the week of January 4 to 568 million for the week of January 25. That's still nothing to sneeze at, but it demonstrates how well Bridgerton is doing.

Netflix makes up all of the top ten streams but for one. Marvel Studios' WandaVision on Disney+ ranked in at #5. But again, those numbers don't tell the whole story. WandaVision only had four episodes out at the time (we didn't even know yet who it had been All Along!), and Disney is releasing the show week by week rather than all at once. Disney+ is growing quickly, but also has far fewer subscribers when compared to Netflix. That all goes to suggest that a huge portion of Disney Plus's 94 million subscribers are tuning in week to week to get the numbers up as high as they are with so few episodes and a traditional weekly release schedule.

Overwatch 2: Jeff Kaplan On Expanding Story, Refining Gameplay, And Beards

Despite being released in 2016, Overwatch remains an incredibly popular multiplayer experience, with a healthy community of players returning day after day for online skirmishes. Naturally, longtime players are eager to play the next entry in the franchise, which was originally announced in 2019. Many fans expected 2021 would be the year a new chapter in the Overwatch saga would unfold, but that is not the case.

The community became crestfallen in the immediate aftermath of this news. However, at BlizzCon 2021, the Overwatch 2 team showed off more of the game than we'd ever seen, and the scope of the effort became more apparent. As well as making drastic changes to the player-versus-player experience, Blizzard is creating a large-scale player-versus-environment suite complete with story missions and over a hundred repeatable missions that can be played with friends, and will allow characters to be developed in an RPG-like fashion. It looks to be much bigger than most imagined.

Following the reveal, we spoke to game director Jeff Kaplan about what the team showed at BlizzCon, balancing their vision with the demands of the community, the challenge of keeping the first Overwatch fresh, and its narrative ambitions for Overwatch 2.

Industry Insiders Explain Why Video Game Movies Are Getting Better And More Popular

Video game movies have long been seen as cursed, with adaptations usually turning out mediocre at best and terrible at worst. Yet something has shifted in the last few years, with films such as Detective Pikachu and Sonic The Hedgehog proving the formula can work, and studios snapping up adaptation deals at incredible rates. A feature by The Ringer has looked into the phenomenon, tapping a few industry experts to explain how and why the industry interest in games has grown so exponentially.

A few projects were singled out as turning points in the reputation of video game adaptations including Sonic The Hedgehog, the 2020 film which overcame a rough start to become one of the top performing video game movies ever.

Dmitri Johnson, who co-produced Sonic under his company dj2 Entertainment, was involved in the movie's on-again-off-again production since 2012. He said that "everyone thought it was a joke," during the early phases of production, but that attitudes changed following the film's highly successful release. "Shortly after that, the incoming calls definitely increased from studios [and] networks saying, 'Hey, whaddya got next?'"

Jet Set Radio-Inspired Game Bomb Rush Cyberfunk Launches First Trailer

Bomb Rush Cyberfunk, an upcoming game by studio Team Reptile, isn't shy about its inspirations. Between its colorful cel-shaded visuals, Hideki Naganuma soundtrack, and all the tagging, rail-grinding and dancing gameplay you could want, Bomb Rush Cyberfunk is looking like Jet Set Radio Future spiritual successor of our dreams.

The Netherlands-based studio dropped its first official trailer today, after announcing the game with a short teaser last year. The game is described as "1 second per second of highly advanced funkstyle," with a short synopsis of the game reading: "Start your own cypher and dance, paint, trick, face off with the cops and stake your claim to the extrusions and cavities of a sprawling metropolis in an alternate future set to the musical brainwaves of Hideki Naganuma."

The music may sound familiar to fans of the original Jet Set Radio games, as Naganuma was the composer behind both Jet Set Radio and Jet Set Radio Future's soundtracks. The Japanese composer will now be creating brand-new music for Bomb Rush Cyberfunk.

Apex Legends Maintenance Will Briefly Send The Game Back To Season 0

Hulu's Solar Opposites Season 2 Trailer Pokes Fun At Pandemic Masks And B.D.E.

With Rick and Morty well ahead of schedule, co-creator Justin Roiland has time to work on other projects. Solar Opposites feels like it could take place a few blocks from Morty's house, though Rick probably wouldn't abide aliens like the Schlorpians living on Earth. Hulu dropped a second trailer today for Solar Opposites Season 2 ahead of its March release.

In Solar Opposites Season 2, the team tries to escape Earth, only for their ship to fail, dropping them right back where they started. The trailer gives us an idea of what to expect. That includes timely jokes about Big D*** Energy, poking fun at wearing masks during the pandemic, and, of course, beasts that eat people and defecate them as wine bottles. Listen, we're just telling you what's in the trailer.

Solar Opposites, co-created by Roiland and ex-Rick and Morty writing assistant Mike McMahan, is the story of four Shlorpian aliens who crash-land on a home in suburban America. Krovo and Yumyulack hate the planet, while Terry and Jesse love everything humanity has to offer. Either way, they have to endure the planet until they can escape, or until their living super computer Pupa evolves to consume them and terraform Earth.

Paramount+ Greenlights Italian Job, Fatal Attraction Shows

The slices of the streaming pie are getting smaller and smaller, but ViacomCBS is working hard to grab its piece. Paramount+, recently rebranded from CBS All Access, is heading to its back catalog once again. The service announced a raft of new shows greenlit for Paramount+ this week, cherry-picking from films as far back as 1969.

Joining the previously-announced Grease prequel musical and Godfather documentary are five new shows based on films from Paramount's library: The Italian Job, Fatal Attraction, Love Story, Flashdance, and The Parallax View.

Each show is taking a slightly different approach to updating its material. The Italian Job acts as a sequel to the original 1969 film--ignoring the 2003 remake. The show will focus on the grandchildren of Michael Caine's character, Charlie Croker, who inherit his safety deposit box and set out to find the Italian bullion from the movie. Hawaii Five-O writer Matt Wheeler is helping the show. Donald De Line, who produced that 2003 remake, is onboard as well.
