Analogue's Pocket, a retro console designed to play all your old games for the Game Boy, Game Boy Color, and Game Boy Advance, has been delayed from its original shipping window of May into October 2021. The company has pointed to industry-wide electrical component shortages and global logistical disruption (related to a certain ship getting stuck in a certain canal) as the reason for the delay.

Unlike other delays announced today, this one is sadly not an April Fools joke. "The current global state of affairs continues to create supply chain challenges outside of our control," the blog post on Analogue's website reads, linking to a Bloomberg feature on chip shortages and a Forbes explainer on the impact the Ever Given's Suez Canal blunder will continue to have on the global supply chain for the next few months.

The $200 Analogue Pocket has proven to be an incredibly popular product even prior to its release, with preorders selling out in just 16 minutes and scalpers already listing them at hugely inflated prices. The delay is beyond Analogue's control, however, with similar issues hitting tech manufacturers of all sizes.

The extinct Moa birds have become something of a phenomenon for the Halo franchise, inspiring Pringles and t-shirts, but they won't be featured in Halo Infinite for a very good reason.

John Junyszek, the community manager for Halo developer 343, said on Twitter that Moas are native to the planet Reach, so they won't show up in Halo Infinite, which is set on Zeta Halo.

"They are native to Reach, so you probably won't be finding any of this portion of Zeta Halo - or perhaps they're missing cause we ate too many Moa Burger Pringles?" he wrote to a fan.

The Oculus Quest 2 only released last October, but it has already managed to outsell all other Oculus headsets combined.

This news comes via a Bloomberg interview with Facebook Reality Labs vice president Andrew Bosworth, who was asked if the Oculus brand was finally going to be having a "mainstream moment."

"If you look a little closely, I think it's starting to happen right now," Bosworth said. "The fact that Oculus Quest 2--in just a few months on the market--has outsold not just its predecessor, but all of its predecessors combined, is a tremendous indicator that we've now broken through from the early-adopter crowd to an increasingly mainstream crowd."

Players have since found that the Game Pass version of The Evil Within has quite a few improvements--including a first-person version of the game that bafflingly requires players to have a Bethesda.Net account.

The changes were initially picked up by YouTuber Jigzaw_Killer, who called the Game Pass version of the game "basically a remaster." A Eurogamer article later pointed out that the game's new modes required a Bethesda.Net account to access. A shot of the game's menu shows extra features such as first-person mode and infinite ammo mode greyed out with a prompt asking the player to log in to Bethesda.Net for access.

A Bethesda spokesperson confirmed to GameSpot that this would be the case for all players, though didn't specify why the Bethesda.Net login was needed. Mortal Kombat Reboot Movie Delayed One Week To April 23

Warner Bros. has delayed its upcoming video game adaptation Mortal Kombat, the studio has confirmed to GameSpot. The news was first reported by Variety. You won't have to wait long, though, as the date has only been pushed back by a week.

Originally set to premiere in theaters and on HBO Max on April 16, Mortal Kombat will now premiere on April 23. Warner Bros.' blockbuster VFX extravaganza Godzilla vs Kong releases tomorrow, so it seems like the studio is looking to space out its releases just a little bit more.

Further, Variety notes, Warner Bros. is crossing its corporate fingers that capacity restrictions on movie theaters will begin to relax across the country as more and more people receive vaccinations. At this stage, even a week could mean millions in ticket sales as more people are allowed into theaters at a time.

San Diego Comic-Con Organizers Defend Thanksgiving Con Dates

San Diego Comic Con International announced this weekend the dates for its first in-person convention since the COVID-19 pandemic began, with Comic-Con Special Edition set to run over the Thanksgiving weekend from November 26 to November 28. Now, organizers are having to defend those dates to fans disappointed that they have to choose between family and a convention this fall.

Comic-Con Special Edition is a three-day event, one day shorter than a full-size Comic-Con, and quite a bit later than its usual July dates. Fans decried the announcement on social media, and convention organizers have now released a statement in hopes of appeasing those conflicted con-goers.

"As conventions and events have had to cancel their in-person shows or have converted to virtual formats during the pandemic, some have been postponed to later years while others have been rescheduled to the later part of 2021, resulting in a very packed Convention Center calendar," said convention organizers in an official statement. "When reviewing dates for an in-person event, it was clear that available meeting and exhibit space would limit our options. New Assassin's Creed Valhalla Update Doubles Reda's Shop Inventory, Goes Live March 30

Following player feedback, Ubisoft is changing Reda's Shop in Assassin's Creed Valhalla. The update for the shop will go live on March 30 and will make it easier to buy new items without spending all the opals you've discovered.

In Valhalla, Reda joins your settlement upon the completion of securing an alliance with Ledecestrescire. For opals, an in-game currency you can find by exploring the world, Reda will sell you unique weapons, armor, and cosmetics that rotate out of his shop on a weekly basis. Up till now, he'd sell you three new items each week. The March 30 update will increase that number to six.

This update also corresponds to a change in Reda's stock. So starting March 30, you'll have a limited window to purchase six new items. They're listed below:

San Diego Comic-Con Organizers Defend Thanksgiving Con Dates

San Diego Comic Con International announced this weekend the dates for its first in-person convention since the COVID-19 pandemic began, with Comic-Con Special Edition set to run over the Thanksgiving weekend from November 26 to November 28. Now, organizers are having to defend those dates to fans disappointed that they have to choose between family and a convention this fall.

Comic-Con Special Edition is a three-day event, one day shorter than a full-size Comic-Con, and quite a bit later than its usual July dates. Fans decried the announcement on social media, and convention organizers have now released a statement in hopes of appeasing those conflicted con-goers.

"As conventions and events have had to cancel their in-person shows or have converted to virtual formats during the pandemic, some have been postponed to later years while others have been rescheduled to the later part of 2021, resulting in a very packed Convention Center calendar," said convention organizers in an official statement. "When reviewing dates for an in-person event, it was clear that available meeting and exhibit space would limit our options. Of the dates presented with the fewest restrictions, Friday through Sunday of Thanksgiving weekend seemed to be the best balance of available space and our envisioned event. Nier Replicant Is The Revamp Needed To Retell Its Emotional Story

"Weiss, you dumbass! You better start making sense, you rotten book, or you're gonna be sorry! Maybe I'll start ripping your pages out one-by-one, or maybe I'll put you in a goddamn furnace! How can someone with such a big, smart brain get hypnotized like a little b**ch? Oh, Shadowlord! I love you, Shadowlord! Come over here and give Weiss a big sloppy kiss, Shadowlord! Now pull your head out of your goddamn ass and START F***ING HELPING US!"

That's the opening line delivered by Kainé, a tough and calloused character with a fighting passion. She yells this directly at Grimoire Weiss, a sentient book who's a sassy wisecrack that wields crucial powers to fight against the otherworldly threat called Shades. But while this first impression is of conflict between allies, it's illustrative of the eccentric group dynamic between the characters of Nier. And the line hits you like a truck just before you watch the intro cinematic, which is backed by the impassioned orchestrations and chorus composed by Keiichi Okabe. It's all that's needed to tell you that you're in for an emotional journey without saying anything more.

In a post-Nier: Automata world, the original Nier has garnered a new spotlight that has afforded it a second lease on life. The initial release was a bit obscured in 2010, dated and rather basic in some aspects, which may have undercut its storytelling chops and the unique narrative stylings of creator Yoko Taro. I've been playing the original version on PS3 recently, and, in retrospect, the flaws in its gameplay systems are easier to overlook when it's understood you're playing an older game--and through that perspective, I've found something really special.

After previously sharing a vague Spring 2021 window for Rust: Console Edition, the development team at Double Eleven has finally given a firm launch date: May 21. The launch comes after major optimization challenges that were needed to get the game running on systems with significantly less power than the PCs required to run the original version.

In a post on its website, Rust: Console Edition studio Double Eleven--the PC version was made by Facepunch Studios--said it needed to get the game working with 4.5 GB of RAM, despite the PC version having a minimum 10 GB requirement. This required rewriting much of the game in the Unity engine, but it still had extremely long loading times that could hit 45 minutes. Further optimization tricks cut this down to about one minute.

"We have got to a level of performance and stability that the majority of our beta testers seem to be happy with, and we are in the background striving to make it better every day!" said community manager Pedro Silva.

Games on this list had either concrete release dates or a release window, so certain games announced for 2022 like Overwatch 2 and Diablo 4 were not included. A game also didn't have to be delayed out of 2021 to be on the list--it just had to be delayed.

Astria Ascending Is A Vanillaware-Like JRPG From A Dream Team

The ID@Xbox stream on March 26 featured more than 100 games and ran for well over three hours, and one of the most-impressive games announced was Astria Ascending. A JRPG from Artisan Studios, it blends a Vanillaware art style with turn-based combat, and its development team includes some of the biggest names in Japanese gaming.

Written by Final Fantasy X and Final Fantasy VII Remake scribe Kazushige Nojima, and with music composed by Final Fantasy XII's Hitoshi Sakimoto, Astria Ascending stars eight heroes known as the "Demigods," and they're "charged with the fate of the world." The game features a number of different races as well as 20 different classes to choose from, and its story seems to be focused on a fruit known as the "harmelon" that keeps peace between the various groups in Orcanon.

"… their fates are doomed, but the world is not," says a line on the Steam page. If you were looking for a story that was all sunshine and rainbows, you should probably look elsewhere. Alongside Final Fantasy and Bravely Default developers, Astria Ascending's team also includes Nier: Automata veterans, and that game isn't exactly known as a lighthearted romp.
