Demon Slayer the Movie: Mugen Train has had the biggest foreign language opening weekend in US box office history. The anime movie made $21.1 million in its first three days on release.
According to Box Office Mojo, the film opened on 1600 screens in the US and Canada. It had a $12,213 screen average, which is the highest per-screen average in the US since Sonic the Hedgehog opened in February 2020.
Demon Slayer the Movie: Mugen Train was already a massive success internationally. Since its domestic release in October last year, it has become the most successful movie ever released in Japan, overtaking Hayao Miyazaki's Spirited Away, which held the record for 19 years. It is also the 16th biggest foreign language film ever released worldwide.
