Out Now: ‘Genshin Impact’, ‘HoloVista’, ‘Creatures of Aether’, ‘Arcane Showdown’, ‘Moon Raider’, ‘Ministry of Broadcast’, ‘Terafyn’, ‘Nodeshifter’, ‘Tusker’s Number Adventure’ and More

Each and every day new mobile games are hitting the App Store, and so each week we put together a big old list of all the best new releases of the past seven days. Back in the day the App Store would showcase the same games for a week, and then refresh those features each Thursday. Because of that developers got into the habit of releasing their games throughout Wednesday or very early Thursday in order to hopefully get one of those coveted features spots. Nowadays the App Store refreshes constantly, so the need for everyone to release all on the same day has diminished. Still, we’ve kept our weekly Wednesday night format as for years that’s the time people knew to check TouchArcade for the list of new games. And so without further ado please check out the full list of this week’s new games below, and let us know in the comments section which games you’ll be picking up!

Twitch Rolls Out Soundtrack Beta To Give Streamers Rights-Cleared Music

Licensed music has been an issue for many streamers in the past, with takedown notices coming from rights holders and making certain games complicated to stream or post videos of. It's made streaming games with big licensed soundtracks, like Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1+2, difficult. Twitch is testing a solution to this issue, an app called Soundtrack By Twitch that will allow streamers to play license-cleared music in their streams.

In a blog post, Twitch has detailed Soundtrack, which has an interface very similar to Spotify. "Soundtrack gives you a curated collection of rights-cleared music and integrates with your streaming software to separate your audio sources, allowing you to keep your channel safe while you create compelling content and grow as a creator," the post says.

Artists currently available, according to the blog, include Above & Beyond, mxmtoon, Porter Robinson, RAC, SwuM, "and many more". Claude Von Stroke, Cloudchord, Chrome Sparks, and Tia Nomore are also listed on the Soundtrack website.

Google's New Chromecast Is Launching Without An Official Stadia App

The saga of Stadia, Google's streaming game service that still hasn't released in many regions around the world, keeps getting stranger. Google has just released a new Chromecast for TVs, and while it comes with over 6500 apps, Stadia isn't one of them right now.

The Verge got their hands on the new Chromecast, which comes with Google TV, and found that there was no official Stadia app at launch. While they were able to get Stadia working through sideloading, it's not an ideal solution, and it means that using Google's service on this Google product at launch is inconvenient.

According to The Verge, the device will be updated to support Stadia officially in "the first half" of 2021. Stadia is officially supported by the Chromecast Ultra, which makes its lack of inclusion here especially confusing. The only way to get the Ultra now is through the Stadia Premiere Edition kit, strangely enough.

Crusader Kings 3 1.1 Patch Is Here, And It's A Big One

Paradox's grand strategy game Crusader Kings 3 may be a lot to handle for new players, but what other game would deliver patch notes like "historical characters will no longer be their own parent," or "children can no longer be educated by hardened criminals." The game's 1.1 patch is here and huge, offering cultural and historical corrections, bug fixes, and plenty of balancing tweaks.

Paradox's highlights from the massive list of patch notes are as follows:

  • A host of bug fixes, including changes to character interactions and succession rules.
  • Corrections to the historical setup in many regions.
  • Key balance changes to many parts of the game, including succession rules, nation formation, and military management.
  • User interface tweaks including new siege views, a bookmark screen, and a general makeover.
  • Tougher Mongol invasions.
  • Improved AI decision making.
  • New abilities for modders.

Many of the changes made in patch 1.1 are historical and cultural fixes, with some of the notes containing a full history lesson in themselves. Others fix some frankly hilarious bugs in the game's sprawling dynastic system, such as "people are now less eager to marry people they are terrified of," or "if you instantly regret romancing someone the game will now accept that you've moved on."

Among Us Imposter Detection Guide - How To Spot A Murderer

Most of the time in Among Us, you'll have the tough job of identifying which of the people you're playing with can't be trusted--ideally before they kill you or sabotage your spaceship and kill everyone aboard. Figuring out who's an imposter and who's just nervous is your main job in Among Us, while also scrambling around the ship to repair systems and bank points on your own. But spotting someone's murderous intent can be very difficult, especially since you can't always tell whether another player on your ship is actively helping you, or just pretending to.

Luckily, there are a lot of things players do that can give you clues as to whether they're on your side or just waiting for a chance to snack on your brains. We've compiled a quick list of things that can tip you off to an imposter's identity. Keep your wits about you, watch everyone around you, and identify the telltale signs of the monster among you and you might just make it out of Among Us alive.

The Person Nearest A Body Usually Did It

This is an easy one, but worth mentioning: if you pass someone leaving a room and find a body right afterward, the chances are extremely good that the fleeing party is responsible. Anybody who spots a body and isn't the imposter would, in most cases, immediately report it, and if you're not the imposter, you have an incentive to check every room you enter for lurking enemies--so you would probably have spotted the body if you were in the same room as it. This isn't a foolproof piece of evidence, but the vast majority of the time, the person closest to the scene is your culprit, so at least keep an eye on them.

George R.R. Martin Did Not Like This One Game Of Thrones Scene In Particular

The writing of author George R.R. Martin spawned one of the most popular fantasy TV shows ever with HBO's Game of Thrones, but Martin didn't love every scene in the show.

Martin told Entertainment Weekly that his least favorite scene in the show's eight-season run came at the very start. In Season 1, Game of Thrones was working on a modest budget (for the scale of the production) of around $6 million USD per episode. Due to this, and presumably other factors, the scene were King Robert goes hunting was scaled back beyond Martin's liking.

"Where we really fell down in terms of budget was my least favorite scene in the entire show, in all eight seasons: King Robert goes hunting," Martin said. "Four guys walking on foot through the woods carrying spears and Robert is giving Renly s**t. In the books, Robert goes off hunting, we get word he was gored by a boar, and they bring him back and he dies. So I never did [a hunting scene]. But I knew what a royal hunting party was like. There would have been a hundred guys. There would have been pavilions. There would have been huntsmen. There would have been dogs. There would have been horns blowing--that's how a king goes hunting!"

Felicia Day's New Weekly Twitch Series Will Interview Women In Entertainment

Felicia Day, star of The Guild and Mystery Science Theatre 3000: The Return, has started a new weekly Twitch panel series focusing on women in the entertainment industry. The show is called Women R, and it will run for eight episodes.

The first episode is up now, and it focuses on game streamers.

In the episode below, Day speaks to streamers CupAhNoodle, Anne Munition, Silvervale, and WowGrandma78 about their work and experiences. Future episodes will feature designers, artists, writers, and women in other roles across games, movies, comics, television, and other entertainment fields. Bonnie Ross, head of Halo Infinite developer 343 Industries, is set to appear on a future episode.

Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter about her new show, Day says that she wanted to create the show to make women in these industries more visible. "You never know when you'll stumble upon someone who really inspires you to take a leap in designing a board game or becoming a voiceover artist," she says. "It's so important to be exposed to it, because often ideas don't occur to us as people unless we sense the possibility of it."

"This is an opportunity for me to not only highlight, but also learn from other women in different areas, and hopefully inspire other people to pursue careers in those areas," she continues. New episodes will debut over the next seven weeks.

The Office: Dwight Actor Rainn Wilson Is Up For A Reboot

Plenty of popular TV shows have been rebooted in recent years, and The Office might be next. A new version of the show is reportedly in the planning stages, and now actor Rainn Wilson--who played the buffoon Dwight K. Schrute on the workplace comedy--has said he would be interested.

Speaking to Collider, Wilson said he would "love" to come back for a new version of The Office. In fact, he said he has already spoken with The Office's US creator Greg Daniels about the idea.

"Maybe someday we'll do something. It's funny, I hear things like, 'We can't do anything because we ended this show perfectly, and we don't wanna do anything else,'" Wilson said. "But then, someone will send some idea that's just preposterous and I don't know what to think. Hopefully, one day. The fans would really love it. That's the thing that counts the most. Huge Retro-Style Open World Action RPG ‘9th Dawn 3’ Launching October 6th on iOS, Android, PC, and Consoles

A little over 7 years ago, developer Valorware brought their curious mobile RPG 9th Dawn to the iOS platform. The game had debuted on Android the previous year, and by the time the iOS version came about it brought with it all the improvements and new content that came from that early Android launch. 9th Dawn was kind of a bizarre game. It drew its inspiration from old-school CRPGs from the ’80s and early ’90s like Ultima, and like many games of that vintage, was unapologetically obtuse to new players. There was an absolutely massive open world to explore in 9th Dawn, and enough underlying systems to keep you busy for literal years, but the game did nothing to hold your hand when it came to where to go in this giant world or how to access those systems.

Paradoxically, 9th Dawn was also incredibly approachable due to its dual-stick combat and movement system that felt right at home on the touchscreen as well as its nearly non-existent penalties for dying. This meant that even though you wouldn’t always know what the hell you were doing at any given time, it was pain free to just try stuff out and experiment without fear of losing hours of progress or permanently screwing things up. It wasn’t for everybody, but this strange combination somehow totally worked and made 9th Dawn an extremely satisfying game to poke and prod at for hours on end.

You can read plenty more about what made 9th Dawn tick as well the interesting history behind Valorware’s founding and their long journey towards releasing this first game in Shaun’s extensive RPG Reload from 2016, and you can read what we originally thought about the game in our review from 2013. Speaking of the sequel, 9th Dawn 2 arrived in the spring of 2016 and by and large offered the very same sort of experience as the first game but with many of its rough edges smoothed out. A streamlined UI made things that were a chore in the original, like selling multiple items or comparing weapons, much easier in the sequel. Overall 9th Dawn 2 was still a game that plopped you into a massive world with tons of stuff to do and didn’t tell you how to go about doing any of it, but it fixed plenty of the sore spots from the first game and we loved this one even more in our original review.

Well, perhaps you have guessed by now where this is all leading or perhaps the headline gave it away a long time ago, but Valorware is on the cusp of releasing 9th Dawn 3: Shadow of Erthil and it is coming incredibly soon: Next week on October 6th in fact. Let’s get right to business with a brand new trailer.

So what’s new in this third trip to the world of 9th Dawn? Plenty. While still retaining its 8-bit-ish inspirations, you can tell from that trailer that the visuals are quite a bit improved in 9th Dawn 3 over the previous games. There’s also an expanded crafting system, a Power Gem system for enchanting your weaponry, rideable mounts, and an improved companion system so you can go adventuring around with a virtual buddy and switch back and forth on the fly. There’s also a full-blown fishing mini-game as well as a full-blown card battling game called Fyued with 180 cards to collect. And finally there is a robust creature system which sees more than 270 different monsters to catch, tame, add to your party, and level up.

Basically, clear your schedule because a new 9th Dawn is upon us and ready to suck your free time away. It’ll be launching across all major platforms which includes iOS, Android, Steam, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One and PlayStation 4 and it’ll be $9.99 on mobile and $15.99 on consoles and PC.

WWE And 2K Games Are Being Taken To Court Over Tattoos

WWE and 2K are being taken to court over the depiction of one wrestler's sleeve tattoos. The Hollywood Reporter notes that artist Catherine Alexander has challenged these organizations over their use of her tattoo designs, present on the player model of Randy Orton, which marks the first case of a copyright dispute over tattoo art reproduction in a game that has gone to trial.

A federal judge in Illinois has given a partial summary judgment that finds that the WWE 2K game series has copied Alexander's work, and it will now come down to a jury to decide whether this constitutes copyright infringement. The case centers around six tattoos on Orton's arms, all of which have been recreated in-game, which Alexander never gave permission to reproduce.

This is not the first time 2K has been to court over tattoos, but when a similar challenge happened relating to NBA 2K, the courts found in favor of 2K. The case was never taken to trial.

National Treasure 3: Here's Why It Never Happened

Disney's National Treasure movies starring Nicolas Cage were huge hits at the box office, collectively making more than $800 million worldwide across two instalments. However, a third film never materialized, and now producer Jason Reed--who worked at Disney at the time but has since left--explained one of the reasons why.

He told Collider that, simply put, Disney was never able to make National Treasure a bonafide franchise by incorporating it into its parks or selling a significant amount of merchandise.

"I think part of what happened ... even though the movies themselves were extremely successful, and had a really strong fanbase; it's a movie that gets brought up all the time, particularly the first one. Unfortunately, the company was never able to capitalize on it as a franchise," Reed said.

Hades Patch On Switch Addresses A Game-Breaking Bug

Hades released on Switch and PC earlier this month, but a bug reared its head for some Switch players and put a stop to their attempts at escape. The bug was a game-breaker, but thankfully it's now been addressed in a patch.

In threads on Reddit, several players reported being unable to load their save files on Switch after several hours of play. The issue seemed to depend on which stats players had focused on in their mirror upgrades, but quite a few players reported seeing an issue.

Supergiant has addressed the bug in the past, saying that they were confident that they would be able to isolate and address it so that players could continue their journeys, and that has now happened. In a tweet, Supergiant announced that a new patch is available on Switch, and it fixes this issue while also containing "several other minor fixes and improvements."

‘Postknight 2’ is in the Works and Taking Sign-Ups for a Closed Alpha Test Next Month

Back in February of 2017 developer Kurechii, who had already made a name for themselves with games like Tiny Guardians and King’s League, released a new game called Postknight to the App Store. Postknight expertly straddled the line between full-blown RPG and mindless idle game by including the progression systems and strategic choices of the former but packaging them in the easy to pick up and play bite-sized nature of the latter. The result was a game that was extremely difficult to put down once it sunk its teeth into you, and we picked Postknight as our Game of the Week when it released back then. If you enjoyed it like we did then you’ll be happy to learn (or perhaps you already know) that Kurechii is hard at work on Postknight 2 and have been revealing bits and pieces of it for the past several months, including these battle moves in the trailer below.

The really exciting news? Currently Kurechii is taking sign-ups for a private alpha test that they’ll be kicking off next month, so if you just can’t wait to get your hands on Postknight 2, then head over to this Google form and fill out your details to throw your hat in the ring in becoming a tester. Spots are limited, and they’ll be opened up on a rolling basis, so even if you don’t get in on day 1 you might get in sometime after. The testing will begin on October 22nd and end on November 22nd, and it’s for both iOS and Android. Go get yourself all signed up if you’re interested, otherwise look forward to Postknight 2 launching hopefully sometime in the very near future.

Butterscotch Shenanigans Have Updated their Past Mobile Game Library with Support for Modern Devices

Fresh off the new “The Void" MEGA update to their wonderful creation platformer Levelhead ($6.99) last month, the good folks at Butterscotch Shenanigans have also been trickling out some much-needed update love to their past library of games on iOS and Android. Yes, that’s right. Before beating the snot out of cancer and releasing our 2016 Game of the Year Crashlands ($6.99), the Bscotch Bros were entertaining us with a number of quirky iOS games that all contained that signature Butterscotch Shenanigans style. And by that I mean totally absurd humor and super fun mechanics!

Bscotch has a very heavy game-jamming background, and in fact you can check out all of their wacky game jam creations on PC by visiting their Itch.io page. One of those wacky creations was Towelfight of the Gods, the very first game Butterscotch Shenanigans ever made. For their debut on iOS they polished up and fleshed out that game jam project and released it as the sequel Towelfight 2: The Monocle of Destiny (Free) back in the spring of 2013. The easiest way to describe Towelfight 2 is if the original The Legend of Zelda was a twin-stick shooter where you could also unlock a huge assortment of animals that you’d then blast at enemies out of your magical monocle. Yes, this is very much a Butterscotch Shenanigans game, and we loved it a bunch in our review. Here’s a trailer.

Mere months after Towelfight 2’s launch on iOS, Bscotch was back at it again with their second iOS release called Quadropus Rampage (Free). What the heck is a quadropus? Why, it’s an octopus that only has four legs, silly. You play as said quadropus in this game, and as is also hinted at in the title, you are on a rampage. Quadropus Rampage plays like a typical melee-focused hack ‘n slash action game, with the real fun being found in all the incredibly weird weapons and loot you’ll come across. It’s an endless, randomly-generated game but with a persistent character upgrade system, a super cool achievement system, and lots of unlockable pets and skins. We really enjoyed Quadropus Rampage in our original review from 2013.

In the time between Quadropus Rampage in 2013 and Crashlands launching in 2016, Bscotch took a step back and tried their hand at a simultaneous release of two smaller-scale, more arcade-y style games compared to what they’d previously done. More game jammy, if you will. Those games were Roid Rampage and Flop Rocket, both released on the same day back in February of 2015. Roid Rampage (Free) is about steering an out-of-control spaceship through an asteroid field while trying to pick up as many glowy orb things as possible. The more glowy orb things you pick up, the higher your score. It reminds me a bit of one of my all-time favorites, PAKO – Car Chase Simulator, but in space and with a less slippery physics system. There are a handful of playable ships and pilots which each come with some minor gameplay augmentations, but by and large this is a straighforward high-score chaser through and through, and a darn fun one at that.

And finally we get to Flop Rocket (Free). Oh, Flop Rocket, what might you have been had the stars aligned in a slightly different way? This was a game somewhat born out of the whole Flappy phenomenon, and has you trying to direct a rocket through a hazard-filled cave while also avoiding weird enemies and making use of fuel refill pads that get further and further apart the longer you go. The beauty of Flop Rocket is that there’s an end to the game. Yes, an end! Make it 5km out of the cave and into open space and you win! You’ll unlock an endless mode so don’t worry if that’s more your thing, but we found it incredibly refreshing in our review of Flop Rocket to see a game like this with an actual ending. The great tragedy of Flop Rocket is that it went sort of viral after it came out, but because the free to play monetization system was tuned to be TOO friendly to the players, Butterscotch Shenanigans never became the gazillionaires they so deserve to be. Still, they made another rad game, so that’s something.

Ah, it’s been fun traveling down the Butterscotch Shenanigans memory lane. I loved all 4 of these games when each of them first released, and it’s been great fun revisiting their newly-updated versions all these years later. The updates include support for higher resolution and wider screens that are found on today’s newfangled iOS devices, and the entire back ends for all games have been updated to the Rumpus system introduced with Levelhead. According to Bscotch this makes the games play smoother “Because of the infused Buttery Magic." Makes sense to me. Actually, I lied a little bit. As of this writing Flop Rocket on iOS has not been infused with Buttery Magic just yet, but it’s in the pipeline, I can assure you. Otherwise all 4 of these buttery classics are updated and ready to go on both iOS and Android, and all of these games are totally free to download and play to your heart’s content, with very minor IAP stuff available just for funsies. If you only know Butterscotch Shenanigans from Levelhead or Crashlands, now is a good time to go back and experience how they got to where they are today.

Henry Cavill Still Wants To Play 007 Someday

In 2005, Henry Cavill auditioned for the role of James Bond, but he didn't get the part. The actor went on to have success with the role of Superman and more recently, as Geralt of Rivia in Netflix's fantasy show. Cavill has now opened up about James Bond specifically, saying in an interview with GQ that he would "absolutely jump" at the idea of playing Bond in a future movie.

Cavill was only 22 when he auditioned for 007 for Casino Royale, and that would have made him the youngest actor to play the role. He's now 37, and with Daniel Craig stepping down from the role after No Time To Die, the producers will be looking for a new super-spy. Nothing is decided yet, of course, but Cavill wants the producers to know he's interested.

"If [Bond producer Barbara Broccoli] and Mike [co-producer Michael G. Wilson] were interested in that, I would absolutely jump at the opportunity," Cavill said. "At this stage, it's all up in the air. We'll see what happens. But yes, I would love to play Bond, it would be very, very exciting."
