The first trailer for Paul Verhoeven's Benedetta has been released. The new movie from the director of Robocop and Showgirls will premiere at the Cannes Film Festival in July.
Benedetta is adapted from Judith C. Brown's non-fiction book Immodest Acts and focuses on the highly forbidden relationship between Benedetta and Bartolomea, two nuns in a 17th century Italian convent. Verhoeven is a director who loves to provoke, and the movie's mix of sex and religion is sure to get the film plenty of attention when it releases. Check the trailer out below--just be warned, it's very NSFW!
The movie stars Virginie Efira as Benedetta and Daphne Patakia as Bartolomea, and the cast also includes Lambert Wilson, Charlotte Rampling, and Olivier Rabourdin. Verhoeven's previous film was the 2016 thriller Elle, and the director's other movies include Basic Instinct, Total Recall, and Hollow Man.
